@TheName_IsTaken PNGs keep transparency on twitter if they're smaller or equal to 900×900px, or when they're encoded as PNG-8 (8-bits, only up to 256 colors)

the spillage happens because some software doesn't pre-multiply the alpha channel, storing it as a separate "layer" in the PNG
