When I want the perfect beverage for this Beatles documentary / I brew myself a steaming cup of tea / While I watch McCartney improvise the melody to Let it Be / I wonder how he did it and sip my tea
Love this Charlie Watts anecdote from Frank Conroy (context is he was writing a magazine piece on Stones, nobody at the house, starts playing on the piano…)
Last week Mike Richards wrote that lawsuits from The Price Is Right didn’t “reflect the reality of who I am.”
I went looking for who he is, talking to current and former colleagues and listening to a podcast he hosted at Price. What I found was troubling. https://t.co/A8AEsPHCMA
I have seen 30-year-old videos of ultimate frisbee games filmed with a single camcorder that showed the action more clearly than the multimillion-dollar production of this home run derby
6 months ago today I wore this blue suit as I cleaned the Capitol after the insurrection, now I just donated it to the Smithsonian. Jan6 must never be forgotten. While some try to erase history, I will fight to tell the story so it never happens again. Here is one story…(THREAD)
The "caning" of Charles Sumner was not a damn "caning!" It was just a frickin’ psycho trying to kill a guy, and happening to use a cane as the murder weapon! https://t.co/uWOFoKb46E
Blake Bailey, acclaimed Philip Roth biographer, was once an eighth grade teacher. He made his students feel intelligent and interesting. He formed a deep emotional bond with them. And he exploited it.
Those former students shared their stories with us:

@JonathanW77 I do not acknowledge the legitimacy of any extra-inning game in which innings start with a runner on 2nd, so I am not sure what you’re talking about
I’ll say this for the 2021 Red Sox: they are making baseball look hard, which it is. I, too, would bounce half my throws from third to first! And watch a third-strike fastball down the middle knowing my best shot was a missed call! So relatable!
I guess it makes sense I would enjoy the 1993-ish feeling since fandom peaks around age 12 — Carlos Quintana, Sherman Douglas, Hugh Millen would all be at home on these teams
Enjoyed yesterday’s radio broadcast of Red Sox getting clobbered so much that I’m realizing I take perverse comfort in Boston sports being something to complain about rather than something to get inspired by
@bendadams That was Movie Basketball in the same way Rocky fights are Movie Boxing so it is a perfect argument for the “profit off our names and likenesses” case
Will take this opportunity to say that Beverly Cleary’s memoirs (A Girl from Yamhill and My Own Two Feet) are extremely good and wildly under-read by adults, especially if you have a kid going through a Ramona or Henry Huggins phase. RIP.
@RottenInDenmark Literally walked by him today, masked up and chatting with neighbors on the sidewalk. On other days have seen him out gardening and pulling trash barrels in and out. Always a friendly nod and hello. My kid gets a huge kick out of knowing who he is.
@bendadams @rerbelding @annasproul Leaving Orbit by Margaret Dean, Carrying the Fire by Michael Collins (the Michael Collins who was the best astronaut on Apollo 11, or at least the best writer)
Incidentally, with regard to the last election where both major party candidates were born before Biden, I sometimes see Michael Dukakis taking walks in my neighborhood and he looks great
