Yesterday, Ottawa MPP Lisa Macleod described the inclusion of an Arabic song at a Remembrance Day service as an "egregious incident" requiring "disciplinary measures."

Send a letter to stress that this kind of divisive and deeply inappropriate rhetoric, coming from an elected leader, is utterly unbefitting of anyone trying to lead the people of Ontario.

It fuels harmful stereotype.
It marginalizes communities.

There is no place for this behaviour in Ontario.
There cannot be silence in the face of it.

We were disturbed but not shocked by Ontario MPP @MacLeodLisa who raised concerns that it was an “egregious incident” that required “disciplinary measures” for a Remembrance Day service to include a song in Arabic.

People are now saying the quiet part aloud: it is entirely preposterous to suggest that speaking a language like Arabic is tantamount to hate.

This is the same province where only a few years ago a family was run over in London for looking different.

This is also coming from an elected official who remains best known for her argument that the autism parent community are “professional protesters” and was demoted from her ministry as a result.

Anyone mad about this should be ashamed. Arabic is a language like any other and there's absolutely nothing wrong with speaking/singing in Arabic. This is just racism, plain and simple.

Additionally, many Arabs fought alongside Entente forces during WWI.
