Hello! I am back. I've mixed feelings about that, but regardless - whats up party people?
As you may have heard, I'm running for office (yes, again - I know). This time municipally for Ward 3 in Burlington, my home ward!
Here's my wonderfully new site:

@connor__peters Its a flashpoint issue - people are worried about the impacts of AI on their jobs and society writ large, so asking if you can place a massive scale datacentre in the heart of Canada's most left-wing labour-focused city outside Winnipeg is... a choice.
Great job everyone who showed up and made their voices heard! The fight against Steelport and other hyperscale datacentres isn't over, but this is a fantastic early win. #BurlON#hamont#onpoli#cdnpoli https://t.co/nvHkv6Rzgi
@connor__peters If you want people to be more accepting of the place AI and its development has in our society, there is a lot more work to be done before we get to questions about where datacentres can or can't be. Not everyone is sold on its existence being good for the future.
@connor__peters I hate to be obvious but uh, Hamilton isn't known for infrastructure that can keep up! They've got a several billion dollar backlog of projects to get to.
With all the potential risks, and a vulnerable community surrounding it, this has the hallmarks for potential disaster.
@connor__peters Again, there is a deep question about whether we need these datacentres in the first place.
If we're truly certain this is a big bet for the future, then corps and the government should share a burden of building independent infrastructure to support it. Not too much to ask!
@connor__peters There's trade-offs for everything. If we're going to have hyperscale datacentres, and it seems like thats the route the federal government wants to go down - yes, I would rather they're out in remote areas with potential environmental risk over knowingly risking communities.
@connor__peters This also isn't about being "anti-AI" - I'm not anti-AI, I use it in my work. I'm anti-corporate control and unregulated development and services, but not anti-technology itself. Most people aren't. Not wanting a potential hyperscale centre in the core of Hamilton is part of that
@connor__peters Putting aside the question of whether hyperscale centres should exist - put it somewhere remote, with its own independent power supply and not connected to groundwater that communities rely on. We've seen too often in the US how this can turn out, no need to plop it in a city.
a trans woman was beaten to death in toronto & police are having trouble identifying them. the police also don’t seem to be pushing this story as much so it seems unlikely her people will find her :(
@RealAlbanianPat It is very similar, though your toplines are slightly different. How much weight in your results is the baseline swing vs all the additions?
Convention 2026 is shaping up to be the most exciting one yet!
Next weekend will feature a virtual address by Zack Polanski, Leader of the UK Greens.
