@hfsnewhamburg staff had a great morning learning about all things math-y. Teachers participated in a variety of activities and had amazing conversations about the use of mathology, knowledgehook, and small group instruction. The rational rods activity was a big hit. @DucPetra
Here is a sneak peek into Mr. Sutter’s grade 4/5 class. I cannot wait to welcome all the Ss. The class tries to blend Catholicism and Indigenous culture by highlighting the 7 Catholic Graduate Expectations and 7 Grandfather Teachings.
Today @WCDSBIntl STEAM Camp, Ss coded their @microbit_edu RC Cars (a remote and receiver). Ss problem solved glitches and problems within their code and Micro:bits (v1/v2 compatibility) to make the RC cars move. Ss will continue to make their codes and cars more efficient.
Today at @WCDSBIntl STEAM Camp, Ss celebrated National Emoji Day by coding their @microbit_edu to be a pet hamster that shows emojis. Ss then used the Engineering Design Process to create the design for their Micro:bit RC cars. I cannot wait to see the end product. Amazing day😀
Amazing first day for the Micro:bit @WCDSBIntl STEAM camp. Ss started with a leaf blower hot wheels STEAM activity. Ss then created the frame for their @microbit_edu RC cars. Ss are using the engineering design process to design, create, and modify their RC cars. @WCDSBInnovates
Last week of Robotics went amazingly @WCDSBIntl STEAM camp. Ss completed their judobots using VEX IQ and coding. Ss participated in a tournament in which Ss had to use their robots to push another robot out of a circle. Ss showed a lot of creativity. Next week Micro:bits.
Amazing start to our Judobot battles at @WCDSBIntl STEAM camp. Ss had to use their knowledge of VEX IQ and creativity to create a robot that can push another robot out of the ring. Ss worked in groups to design, create, and code the robots for Friday’s tournament. @WCDSBInnovates
Amazing start to the second week of the @WCDSBIntl STEAM camp. Ss had to incorporate the use of a controller by adding code and an add-on to their VEX IQ algorithm. Ss then modified their claw or used a ball launcher to collect pinballs and place them through a small hole.
Amazing first week at @WCDSBIntl STEAM camp. Ss learned how to create and code robotics using VEX IQ. Ss used a variety of add-ons (including optical sensors, distance sensors, and bumpers). Ss completed a variety of challenges and overcame multiple challenges. @WCDSBInnovates
Coding + Robotics + Programming + Teamwork + VEX IQ + Endless Learning + Growing Friendships = WCDSB STEAM Camp!! Day 2 with our Colombian friends was nothing short of amazing! Can’t wait to see what these bright minds bring to the classroom tomorrow! @WCDSBInnovates@WCDSBIntl
Amazing first day of STEAM camp @WCDSBInnovates. Ss learned how to create and code robotics using Vex IQ. Ss are making automated robotics this week and person driven robotics next week. Cannot wait to see the amazing things these Ss will make. @WCDSBIntl@wcdsb@danwittwcdsbca
Thank you @danwittwcdsbca for the VEX IQ robotics. The coding club @hfsnewhamburg have loved learning how to create robotics and code them to collect items using a claw. Ss cannot wait for our robot wars that will begin next week.
Amazing presentation happened today @hfsnewhamburg with a focus on race, humanity, and imagination. Ss learned about the importance of seeing the good in people and the importance of overcoming obstacles. Thank you @dwayne_morgan for the motivational speech and poetry.
Ss @hfsnewhamburg culminated our solar eclipse experience with our learning buddies by creating a piece of solar eclipse art. Last week Ss worked with their buddies to create a pinhole camera to view the solar eclipse. Many of the JKs and SKs used the camera to view the eclipse.
Today @hfsnewhamburg Mr. Modolo dropped by to teach a lesson on algebraic expressions and equations. Ss loved the fun activity where they reverse all the steps to find a number that was folded, stapled, and put in a drawer. Ss realized the importance of using inverse functions.
This week @hfsnewhamburg Ss created survey questions, surveyed students, made graphs to show their results, analyzed data, made conclusions, and reflected on misrepresenting data and avoiding biases. Ss did well to use Google sheets to create a variety of graphs for the project.
Primary coding club started back up today at @hfsnewhamburg and the Ss used @microbit_edu to code secret messages with each other. Ss coded messages using @MSMakeCode and had a great time sending and receiving secret messages from friends.
Ss @hfsnewhamburg showed their Christmas spirit today at the Christmas Concert. Ss showed their amazing dancing, singing, and acting skills while spreading Christmas Cheer. Amazing work to the staff who helped coordinate this event.
Ss @hfsnewhamburg participated in the OCTE program last week. Ss used their problem solving , collaboration, and coding skills to complete a variety of design process problems connected to the automotive and technology sector. These problems connected to AODA and electric cars.
