🇨🇴 Colombian President Gustavo Petro told the U.N. Security Council today that wars in the Middle East are being driven by the global greed for oil and a resurgence of what he called “Nazi ideology,” arguing that the pursuit of hydrocarbons is fueling violence across the region.

Petro said Israel’s killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza is linked to its economic and political interests, and shows that racism and fascism are again shaping world affairs.

After the U.S. delegation condemned what it described as Petro’s “antisemitic” rhetoric and comments “diminishing the Holocaust,” Petro responded that he aims to prevent a “new Holocaust” against the “people of the Third World,” and called on the international community to uphold the principles that led to the creation of the United Nations.

🚨 The first image of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya to emerge since his detention, taken during the ongoing proceedings before Israel’s High Court of Justice in Jerusalem, shows him visibly emaciated, in stark contrast to his appearance before he was taken into Israeli custody.

His son warned this week that the life of Dr. Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, is in grave danger. He has been held in Israeli detention since December 2024 after refusing to abandon his patients in northern Gaza. The family says Israeli authorities transferred him to solitary confinement in Nafha Prison in retaliation for filing a legal appeal with Israel’s High Court.

According to the family, Dr. Abu Safiya is being held in a two-meter cell, forcibly starved like thousands of other Palestinian prisoners, and denied basic necessities, including clean water, medicine, and access to his lawyer.
