@renedare@flying_steve There are doors on the lower level exit, but you can walk through them if you’d like and Pearson claims they’re just for crowd control. Keeps the greeters out in the lobby.
The *entrance* to the domestic bag claim, however, is outside the secure area. Anyone can freely enter.
@LasVegasTodd@flying_steve This is a hobby horse of mine, but.. why on earth would anybody assume that a proper mayday call results in *more* talking or immediate follow up questions than a routine sounding statement that anybody on freq who’s half-distracted might miss completely?
@notthefakesoup@flying_steve Obviously you need to say the runway. The last thing I want, however, is somebody to hear nothing but the runway in an otherwise normal sounding radio call and go ‘what did he say?’
Mayday x 3 has value as a ‘shut up and listen’ marker. There’s no downside. Train to say it.
@FreSch_Dude@flying_steve Train how you fly, fly how you train. It absolutely should be automatic, but it won’t be if you’re averse to even practicing saying those big scary words.
@notthefakesoup@flying_steve The dedication to avoiding standardized phraseology never has and never will make sense to me. The guy behind might be in the middle of a checklist, or they (and/or the controller) only barely speak aviation English. I don’t want to say again, I want to be heard the first time.
