The only thing that’s keeping incumbent banks alive is that they still own lending, mortgages etc.
Revolut & co already took payments, FX, cards, and a working app.
The day they start to underwrite mortgages and SME loans at scale, it’s game over.
Finnish banking feels safe and settled, guess what else did? Nokia in 2007.
Someone in my S-Pankki thread said their main reason for banking there is that it is free after the membership fee. I cannot stop thinking about this. You are choosing where to keep your money, run your business, handle your mortgage, based on the fact that it costs nothing. A bank that costs nothing. What do you think you are getting for nothing. You are the product. Your transaction data, your spending patterns, your entire financial profile feeds the S-ryhmä ecosystem so they can sell you more ham and fuel.
Revolut charges me and in return I get instant multicurrency transfers, stock trading, virtual cards, eSIM and an app that actually works like it was built in this decade. Finnish consumers have been conditioned by the cooperative model to believe free means good deal when free means you already paid in ways you do not see.
@TheDealMakerGuy Loved the search process. Reality hits real fast after you close and find yourself on site fixing leaking pipes and equipment not to mention things on your list. Wouldn’t change a day though, and still searching for new businesses to buy!
you're spending 3 hours a day writing mid tweets by hand like a caveman
i produce a week of content in ONE Claude convo and mine actually convert
documented the whole workflow. training it on your business, the prompts, the hooks, the dms
comment "COOK" and i'll send it
(must be following + RT)
@kristinnsms Taking inspiration from our Brothers in Sweden and building something from the ground up for the next 100 years. 1 acquisition in the books so far. Love the model
A hypothetical question: You’re single in your late 20’s, no personal debt, you have 1 company atm, $50-$100k cash to do an acquisition. Would you rather take it slow and buy a company 100% yourself and use the FCF to pay down debt and fund the next acquisition, or raise equity from select partners to be able to do more acquisitions sooner?
If you can, try find one where the seats are high enough so your feet are above the heater! I used to build saunas in finland, maybe I’ll bring that business to the states someday!
$4k on a home sauna sounded insane to me a year ago.
Then I actually went down the longevity rabbit hole. The Finnish data on 4+ sessions a week — linked to lower cardiovascular and all-cause mortality — is hard to unsee. That's not a splurge, it's cheap insurance I'll use for 20 years.
For folks who've made the jump: best setup in the $2k–$5k range?
And which ones can actually live outside — barrel, cabin, something that survives a real winter?
Looking for a real sweat, not a closet with a heat lamp.
@lawyer4SMBs If you can, try find one where the seats are high enough so your feet are above the heater! I used to build saunas in finland, maybe I’ll bring that business to the states someday!
@OneManLBO Carrying the boats I see! But cardio is amazing. If I feel sluggish duribg the day and like my brain is fried from working, a short 15-30min cardio workout feels like restarting my brain.
@nathan_e_hill Love this. The human side of M&A is the part that doesn’t get enough attention. I'm on the buy side in the Nordics, acquiring and holding small businesses forever. Similar fascination with the founders behind the companies.
The company had just closed a €2M round. I quit anyway.
Former construction worker, turned M&A advisor, now buying small boring Nordic businesses and holding them forever.
People thought I was nuts. Maybe. But Constellation Software started somewhere too.
