If you have any Qs abt the POWs at #Berga, are related to one of the GIs, or have original materials that you are interested in donating to @HolocaustMuseum collection, please contact me or email [email protected]. Please do not send any materials to the Museum at this time.
This is why I always follow the tangential & "Oh by the way..." comments that people make, & one of the many reasons why every day continues to be an amazing new adventure at work, even after all these years!

Elisabeth Blind was a child when she went into hiding and survived under a false ID w/assistance from the Dutch resistance. A thread about how I acquired her suitcase for @HolocaustMuseum...

Later, when Maurits was sharing his documents, he tells me that they survived on false papers & his father, who was not Jewish & w/the resistance, kept their real documents hidden in a lockbox in the house. I jokingly asked if he had that in the garage as well - AND HE DID.
I had the great pleasure of meeting @BenFerencz for the first time in 2018 at a @HolocaustMuseum event. He was such delight and an inspiration to so many. As he always said: “Never give up.” May his memory be for a blessing.
Today the world lost a leader in the quest for justice for victims of genocide and related crimes. We mourn the death of Ben Ferencz—the last Nuremberg war crimes prosecutor. At age 27, with no prior trial experience, he secured guilty verdicts against 22 NazisToday the world lost a leader in the quest for justice for victims of genocide and related crimes. In 2010 @HolocaustMuseum rcvd a diary Stephen Schweitzer kept as a POW in #Berga. 5 of his 7 daughters came to the Museum this week to donate the 1st diary he kept upon capture, in Stalag IXB & Berga, reuniting the diaries for the first time in 77yrs. https://t.co/RNGgBjBIBA
Remember this? Well this week that woman & her family not only got to finally visit @HolocaustMuseum to view these items in person, but they also donated the 1st diary he kept in the camps. It was awesome getting to meet everyone & receive this collection. Another very good day!
I got a call today from a woman asking abt the Berga POW diaries. Did we have her grandfather’s? We do! I was able to show her on @HolocaustMuseum website his diary & other items of his. Previously, she had only ever seen a partial photocopy of the diary. Today was a good day.
We stand with the Ukrainian people and condemn the continued Russian attacks on innocent lives. Russia’s distortion of the Holocaust as a pretext to invasion and today’s damage inflicted on #BabynYar are grave threats to Holocaust memory.

The loss of life in Ukraine today is our primary concern. We are also outraged at the damage inflicted on the Babyn Yar memorial by Russia’s attack today. #BabynYar was the site of one of the largest mass shootings during the Holocaust. It is sacred ground. Learn more.
Vladimir Putin has misrepresented and misappropriated Holocaust history by claiming falsely that democratic Ukraine needs to be “denazified.” We strongly condemn Russia’s attack on Ukraine and are concerned about threats to civilians and loss of life. https://t.co/ohIXTL9QOj
"It's totally wrong to use the memory of the Holocaust for political purposes—whatever side it's on." Holocaust survivor and Museum volunteer Al Munzer on current comparisons of the Holocaust to pandemic precautions. https://t.co/uTqSkdLknk
The desecration of #Auschwitz was an assault on the significance of the Holocaust and the memory of those murdered there. It was also an attack on all people who care about confronting antisemitism and other forms of hatred. @AuschwitzMuseum

@MedhaviGandhi@NS_Museum @soupdragon2000 @AskACurator@MarDixon Currently watching a baseball game, so that would be my beloved Washington @Nationals. If we're going with TV series, then that was Making It, and I'd have to work with Amy Poehler & @Nick_Offerman. A real hardship.
@ChrisMotz@ArtHistoryElon Personal pet peeve: People who send unsolicited collections without talking to us first. Often, we are not the right repository or the items are out of scope for our collections.
Personal pet: My WFH intern Steve. Full of opinions, somewhat helpful.
