A demilitarized zone (DMZ) in networking is a special area of a network that sits between the public internet and the private internal network.
It is used to hold systems that need to be accessed by the public, like websites, email servers, or DNS servers, without giving outsiders direct access to the main internal network.
This acts like a safety buffer zone, so even if a hacker breaks into something in the DMZ, they still cannot easily reach sensitive internal systems like company databases or employee computers.
It improves security by isolating public facing services from the private network.
Cybersecurity is the only field where “nothing happened” is the success metric. If you do your job perfectly, the reward is silence and a budget cut next quarter.
