The Stonewall riots began in the early hours of the morning #OTD in New York City's Greenwich Village.
The uprising launched the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement and changed our country forever.

@polotek Barriers: it was hard to have the lifestyle we wanted, pay expensive rent, and then also save significant amounts on top of all that. It felt “fine” if we avoided CC debt at the end of the month.
But even without the dumb luck, having the kid nudged us toward more planning/saving
@polotek During the early pandemic, we were able to save since our lifestyle generally became more affordable with fewer trips/weddings/etc. And Heather was pregnant so suddenly we got serious about saving.
Before that we had some savings, but nothing approaching the recommended amounts.
@polotek The only reason I actually have an emergency fund is that I got super lucky and benefitted from Lever’s acquisition.
A financial advisor from Facet Wealth helped us figure out how much to put where; the emergency fund is in a high yield savings account, 6 months take home pay.
@polotek I often fall in the "I tried to tell people, but they're not listening" trap.
I find that often when I start thinking like that, the problem is that I forgot to meet people where they are with my communication about the thing/project/problem.
@JeremiahPrummer My partner is a teacher, and our favorite time hack is to take advantage of child care on the non-federal holiday Mondays she gets off.
I take the day off too and we have a blissful child free day.
@ceeoreo_ My favorite car accessory is an air compressor that plugs into the 12V car outlet (aka cigarette lighter port).
The experience of filling up tires with it is much better than using the free pumps at gas stations.
@polotek I’ve been thinking about building a “text this friend next” tool/app/website.
Basically, it would help me if I had a way to create a list of homies I wanna keep in touch with, then having the tool tell me who I should check in with next.
I was able to pay off my student loans on my own thanks to multiple layers of luck.
I’m so glad that so many more people are gonna experience a little luck as well with this loan forgiveness action.
@moskov Spammers indeed. Maybe it’s that simple.
I don’t get other types of spam on here. I’m curious about how and why they decided to target me. Is it 1 spammer? Do the spammers all share a target list? Do they have a “do not invite to pyramid scheme” list I can join?
Anybody know why crypto people keep tagging on here for crypto things?
It has happened more than once, and I don’t understand.
I don’t have a hex profile pic, I barely ever tweet, what’s the point?
THREAD. I noticed something fascinating: around the same time in recent days, each major corporate news source began talking about a new crime hysteria: a supposed crisis of theft from the railroad industry. But if you look deeper, something very scary is happening.
Listen to Oakland students: “We must go back to distance learning until the cases go down again. In order to ensure a safe learning environment, we demand you give us KN95/N95 masks and weekly PCR testing. If these demands are not met we will be striking by not attending school.”
