For me, 7 October is not just a story I report. It is deeply personal.
My father, my brothers and my sisters are still in Gaza. Every strike, every displacement order, every night of fear reaches my own family.
The Gaza I grew up in has been shattered. People I knew are gone. Places filled with memories have disappeared.
Three years later, my hope is painfully simple: that my family can stay on the land we call home.
And my deepest fear is that one day, they may be forced to leave it.
Just spoke to a Russian friend (me, i talk to myself) and he said 400,000 have already died from the ligma virus throughout the entire country, brace yourselves
22-year NHL veteran.
First-ballot Hall of Famer.
The all-time leader in goals. Stanley Cup, multiple Harts, Rocket Richards, and basically every scoring award the league hands out.
Alex Ovechkin announced his final season.
Toronto Star: “Russian announces this will be his final NHL season.”
That’s not a headline. It’s a choice. Lazy, pointless framing that treats one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen as a nationality first and a person second.
It doesn’t inform anyone who already knows who he is, and it doesn’t help anyone who doesn’t. It just rage-baits the timeline.
This is why people stopped trusting the papers. Not because every story is wrong, but because too many of them are written like this—substituting a loaded label for the actual name of a 41-year-old who has spent his entire career in Washington and holds the NHL’s scoring record.
You can separate the player from geopolitics. Plenty of people do. Reducing a first-ballot career to one word doesn’t make the coverage sharper. It just makes it weaker.
Just because he wants to live where he was born after his career. This is the choice this writer made.

Alex Ovechkin is one of the greatest players ever to play our game. But for Washington @Capitals fans, and for all of us who have had the privilege of watching him here in Washington, he is so much more than that.
For more than two decades, Alex has given our fans everything they could ask for: the goals, the records, the physicality, the passion, and an unmatched desire to win. He has made countless nights at @CapitalOneArena unforgettable. He brought Washington a Stanley Cup, and he helped create some of the most joyful and unifying moments this city has ever experienced in sports.
Alex helped turn the Washington region into a true hockey market, inspiring a new generation of young fans to fall in love with the sport and young players to pick up a stick. Across our community, you see the influence he has had on children, families, youth hockey programs, and the many people who now proudly call themselves Capitals fans.
What has always stood out to me is Alex’s connection with our fans. They have watched him grow from a young superstar into the face of this franchise, and they have been with him through every great moment. That relationship is rare. It is built on loyalty, shared memories, and the feeling that every time Alex steps on the ice, something special can happen.
It’s going to be a special and memorable final season, and I look forward to sharing the journey of @ovi8's final chapter with our fans.

It was bad enough when Man City’s owners threatened trade and diplomatic relations with the UK based on the outcome, to have our own PM say this is utterly ludicrous.
What Andy Burnham is doing right now is trying to indirectly influence the outcome of an independent arbitration.
It’s absolutely disgraceful. IMO, a resigning matter. Of course he won’t.
But the reality is the Panel could be indirectly influenced by anyone they speak to. Whatever they read about the case could indirectly influence them.
The threat of direct interference by Burnham or anyone in UKG is simply not realistic. It would be a criminal offence and none of them have the balls. They’re cowards and have too much self-interest to even consider it.
Pep Guardiola inherited a team with De Bruyne, David Silva, Kompany, Sterling and Aguero, and still spent €500m in his first two seasons. For context, in his first 18 months, he spent as much as Arsene Wenger did in 21 years. That’s what £900m of artificial revenue allowed.
