I join fellow UN experts in urging #Pakistan to halt the forced return of Afghans who may face persecution, torture or other serious human rights violations.
Afghans at risk must have a safe and accessible way to come forward, be individually assessed, and receive protection from forced return while their cases are being assessed.

🔵I am particularly concerned about women and girls, unaccompanied children, human rights defenders, journalists, former judges, prosecutors and lawyers, former security personnel and others who may face serious risks upon return.

➡️We also raise concerns about actions toward forced return of Afghan students in medical and dental institutions in Pakistan, particularly women students whose access to higher education and medical training is already severely restricted in #Afghanistan.

Respect for the principle of non-refoulement is essential: people must not be returned to situations where they face a real risk of serious human rights violations.

Today marks exactly 5 years since schools were closed for Afghan girls. A generation of girls have missed their entire secondary education. #Afghanistan remains the only country blocking half its population from high school and beyond. This is having a huge impact not only on girls, including on their mental health, but on the present and future of the country. It is not only unacceptable; it is outrageous and possibly a crime against humanity. Open the doors with a comprehensive curriculum. Normalizing a regime that systematically persecutes women & girls is unacceptable. We must stand with Afghan girls.

آخرین بار داوود سرخوش عزیز را در دوران مهاجرت، پیش از کنسرتش در استادیوم ورزشی آزادی تهران، در خانه فامیل‌مان دیدم؛ همان‌قدر صمیمی و ساده.
