Earth is not facing a global climate crisis and is unlikely to do so for tens of thousands of years.

The Earth - and all biological life, including humanity - live comfortably in a protracted warm interglacial period during the Late Cenozoic Ice Age. Global average temperatures are not in crisis. They are several degrees cooler than global averages over half a billion years.

The pace of change over thousands of years has always been dominated by geology and the rise of biology. These are very slow process over thousands of years. The deep ocean currents carry tropical warm waters around the world, warming the northern hemisphere and modifying the climate. This return journey of ocean waters alone lasts a thousand years.

There is no sudden warming crisis in sight, nor is it possible under existing planetary engineering. Instead, the world of today is several degrees 'colder' than the long-term global average of 18°C to 18°C. Ten percent of the world's land area still sits under glacial ice covering 15 million square kilometers (5.8 million square miles).

The current mild warming spell has seen a rise of only 1.1°C to 1.4°C in 250 years. This immediately followed the Little ice Age in Europe, which lasted 600 years and was the coldest planetary period in 10,000 years. Instead of a crisis, improved carbon dioxide concentration have helped to turn much of the world's arid and barren areas green, identified by NASA satellites. Farm produce has multiplied.

The Antarctic ice sheet is still fully intact after 34 million years, and is still the largest ice formation on Earth, reaching 4.8 kilometres (about 3 miles) in depth. It would take tens of thousands of years for this ice to melt enough to effect sea levels or ocean temperatures. This could not happen in two or three decades.

The Antarctic still holds 90% of the world's ice by volume & accounts for around 85% of total global glacial ice cover. Antarctica spans roughly 14 million square kilometers (5.4 million square miles) and covers about 8.3% of the total land surface.

Mankind has nothing to fear from such a benevolent global climate, but fear and hysteria. The warm interglacial period has enabled the rise of modern society during the past 11,700 years. This interglacial is just one of dozens of glacial and interglacial cycles that have dominated Earth's geography, biology and climate variability for millions of years.

All modern human societies and every meaningful invention occurred during the Holocene warm interglacial period.

The Late Cenozoic Ice Age began 34 million years, since the original glaciation of Antarctica was caused by tectonic changes to the world's land structure. This isolated the Antarctic continent from warm tropical waters and turned it into a deep freeze.

These enduring cycles of history will never be reversed in the space of a few decades. The Earth takes infinititely small steps.
