@firefly202311 @tara_bristow@leelfc84@ValkySaSu @Jezza77862786 @CatherineAdene3@SavilleMelanie@HollieArnavut SS is a reprieve bc you don't have to pretend that suicide is always a bad idea, but in goodbye threads OPs are often reminded they don't have to feel ashamed for backing out. I'm impressed at how charitable people are, especially compared to what press coverage has said.
@Cbcbieb @firefly202311 @SavilleMelanie@TonyNewsCamera @AngusCrawfordR4 Sure, if you're new to this. But if you've done years of therapy, meds, support programs, exhausted mainstream (& some alternative) resources & false hopes, it's silly to expect there is anything you haven't heard before. Eventually you just want to commiserate with your people.
@firefly202311 @SavilleMelanie@TonyNewsCamera @AngusCrawfordR4 I always laugh about "peer support services" in particular because someone who is my peer would not be able to hold down a job. Lmao. On SS there are people like me.
@firefly202311 @SavilleMelanie@TonyNewsCamera @AngusCrawfordR4 Yes. We would be speaking with someone who will, in the capacity of their job, try and coerce us into their values and disrespect our agency. Not much of a platform.
@SavilleMelanie @firefly202311 @TonyNewsCamera @AngusCrawfordR4 There are orgs that lie about being confidential, so it is hard to trust. There may well be some genuine resources out there, but we are in a minefield where we can't even trust them to be honest!
@SavilleMelanie @firefly202311 @TonyNewsCamera @AngusCrawfordR4 Where, outside of places online like SS that are constantly under threat? I don't know much about Lamarcus, but of course he didn't speak. Anything he said would be used against him.
@firefly202311 @SavilleMelanie@TonyNewsCamera @AngusCrawfordR4 I truly wish there was a way for the suicidal to have a voice. Will we always be considered too dangerous to speak? In a world without forced treatment, there would be far less need for spaces like SS. We could speak openly without threat of being sectioned.
@DWDCanada I love that you are sharing these. It would be great to see the life stories of younger people, too, but I suppose they are less likely to be approved anyway.
@AlinStLouis@PickleMamaa Suicide is selfish in a similar way to how breaking up with someone is selfish. You should consider how it impacts others, but at the end of the day, it's more selfish to force someone to continue a relationship or a life that doesn't meet their needs.
Why I Resigned from Mental Health America

"When MHA lobbied for expanding forced treatment, I could no longer allow myself to be a cog in the oppressive, profit-driven, psych industry wheel."
