I saw this on FB and it made me very sad. Is their absolutely NOTHING that this criminal government can do properly.
Written by James Deacon.
I am about to write what has to be one of the most difficult and painful posts for me to write on Facebook.
On Friday I was given news which unfortunately I cannot disclose yet that has forced me to turn my back on something I truly love with all my heart: Kirstenbosch Garden.
I have been involved there for 19 years due to my love and passion for the garden. However Kirstenbosch is no longer a place that brings me joy and happiness but rather pain and sadness.
When I walk through nursery now I see neglect, decay and death. The amazing plant collections that have taken decades and more to establish sit neglected slowly dying.
The Protea collection is less than a third of what it was and only a fraction of the Ericas remain. One plant has gone from extinct in the wild to completely extinct purely due to lack effort to keep it going. Places once full of plants sit empty and in some cases full of weeds because the production of plants is so diminished.
Great plantsmen and women like Ernst van Jaarsveld, Monique McQuillan , Louise Nurrish , Cherise Viljoen , Anthony Hitchcock who I admired and looked up to all left way before they should have because working there had become so unpleasant and because things like procurement made it impossible for them to do their jobs.
One told me when they tried to order pots the response they got from the management of SANBI the SOE that runs many of the country's botanical gardens was what were they cooking. Another ordered pots and three years later they yet to arrive.
Poor financial management has resulted in the organisation having to use funds donated for educational purpose to pay staff salaries.
Kirstenbosch no longer has a Protea or an Erica expert and hasn't had either for years.
Staff morale is at an all time low and respect for the leadership of the garden has broken down.
The garden cannot produce metal labels to tell visitor what the names of the plants are.
I say all these things not out of animosity to anyone or with the desire to see people in trouble. I say these things because I love the garden and what I am seeing is breaking my heart. I am also saying these things because after all the friends, experiences, knowledge and memories the garden has given me I feel I have a duty to speak out for the garden in difficult times such as these.
I don't know what will happen to me for saying all this. Maybe I will be banned from the garden or get into trouble. However I refuse to stay silent and standby while the things and people that I care about suffer. I also feel that we the current custodians of the garden have a duty to preserve and protect the work of those custodians of the past for the custodians of the future.
We have two choices to be remembered as those who fought for Kirstenbosch during its most difficult and challenging times or as those who sat idly by and allowed it break down and be ruined.
I don't know if anyone will read this or if it will achieve anything but I will not keep silent while the place I love suffers and will continue to speak out against what is happening.
“STAGED ROBBERY”: PARTNER AND TENANTS ACCUSED OF GQEBERHA BUSINESSMAN’S MURDER
Three accused in the murder of businessman Daniel de Jager (65) briefly appeared in the Gqeberha High Court on 12 May. The matter was postponed to 22 May for further consultations.
Initial reports stated that four intruders invaded the Mangold Street home while the couple slept, restrained Estelle le Grange and fled with property and De Jager’s Nissan Juke. However, the State now alleges the robbery scene was staged.
The accused: Estelle le Grange (57) and tenants Anke Cilliers (36) and Leeroy Scholtz (36), who lived on the same property, face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
It is the State’s case that the three unlawfully and intentionally conspired to kill De Jager, allegedly suffocating him and striking him repeatedly with a hammer or similar instrument.
The State further alleges they stole bank cards, jewellery and R4,450 in cash to make the murder appear to be a house robbery gone wrong.

SANParks has launched an investigation to trace and identify a man seen in viral social media footage allegedly engaging in dangerous and unlawful driving inside the Kruger National Park. They described the incident as deeply concerning and condemned the driver’s actions as reckless, irresponsible and a serious violation of conservation laws.
According to SANParks, the footage shows the individual illegally crossing rivers with a vehicle, driving on roads that had officially been closed, and operating the vehicle recklessly within the protected area.
Authorities said the conduct displayed a blatant disregard for public safety, environmental protection measures, conservation regulations and the authority of park management.
SANParks stressed that national parks are protected under strict environmental legislation, including the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (NEMPAA).
These laws prohibit activities that could damage ecosystems, threaten biodiversity, endanger wildlife or compromise visitor safety.
The organisation warned that violations could result in criminal charges, substantial fines, imprisonment, civil claims for damages and administrative sanctions.
The agency highlighted that driving through rivers and ignoring road closures can severely damage sensitive ecosystems and infrastructure, while also putting both humans and animals at risk.
Road closures in the park are often implemented for critical safety reasons, including flooding, poor road conditions and wildlife movement.
SANParks confirmed that officials are actively working to identify the suspect and warned that once located, he could face the full might of the law, including fines and a possible ban from all SANParks-managed protected areas.
SANParks said, “We are looking for this individual, and he will face the music.”
The organisation also confirmed that gate officials allegedly seen in the video encouraging or supporting the conduct will face consequences for violating park regulations and staff conduct rules.
Members of the public with information that may assist investigators have been urged to contact SANParks or the nearest law enforcement authorities.

WOMAN ENCOUNTERS ONE OF THE BIGGEST SOUTHERN AFRICAN PYTHONS IN BELA-BELA
BELA-BELA– A woman has shared her remarkable experience after encountering one of the largest Southern African pythons ever seen in the area.
Liza Marais took to social media to describe the extraordinary moment, saying she was involved in the relocation of the massive snake.
“This was one of the biggest Southern African pythons I’ve ever encountered and relocated,” she wrote.
The python measured close to 5 metres, estimated at around 4.7 metres in length.
“For four years I only knew her by her spoor, a worker who once saw her swimming in the dam, and a single trail camera photo. Other than that, we never laid eyes on her… until the day she finally revealed herself, basking in the sun alongside a smaller male of about 2 metres,” she added.

🇺🇸🇨🇦🇪🇺 Most people have never heard of the Satanist sexual predator network known as 764, and if you’re a parent, you may want to read this…
764 is a decentralized online network designated as a terrorist organization by the FBI, the DOJ, and Canada.
They target children as young as 9 years old on platforms like Discord, Roblox, Minecraft… and so on.
It was founded in 2021 by a 15-year-old dropout from Texas, but has since metastasized into a global cancer.
Here’s how it works:
Members find vulnerable kids online, often those with mental health struggles or from troubled backgrounds, build fake relationships with them, obtain compromising images, and then use those images to blackmail them into increasingly horrific acts.
This might include self-harm, animal abuse, sexual acts on camera, and in some cases even suicide attempts broadcast live.
The FBI has linked 764 to over 250 investigations across all 55 of its field offices, with arrests in at least 8 countries for crimes including child abuse, kidnapping, rape and murder.
The network operates through Satanic and neo-Nazi ideology borrowed from a group called the Order of Nine Angles.
But researchers say the real driver is pure sadism, with members gaining status by sharing documented exploits of their victims.
If you have kids on Discord, Roblox, or Minecraft, PLEASE be vigilant.
