Thanksgiving should be a time for gratitude and family—not fear that a parent may be deported because of compulsory conscription decades ago. Canada can protect its security without confusing forced conscripts with genuine IRGC members. Clear IRCC/CBSA guidelines are urgently needed. Mandatory conscription alone must not punish innocent applicants.

Imagine escaping oppression, rebuilding your life in Canada, only to face deportation for conscription you never chose.
@Sameerzuberi, please don’t let innocent families pay twice.

To human-rights organizations and humanitarian advocates: please stand with Iranian families affected by the IRGC conscription issue. People who fled repression now face fear and possible family separation.
@AmnestyCanada @CCLA_Canada @SameerZuberi#ConscriptsAreNotMembers
As Canadian families celebrate Thanksgiving, many Iranian conscript families live in fear of deportation, separation, and an uncertain future. Children should not have to fear losing a parent over compulsory conscription.
#ConscriptsAreNotMembers
Canada must issue clear guidelines for IRCC and CBSA to distinguish people forced into compulsory conscription from genuine IRGC members. Mandatory conscription alone should not be used to punish innocent applicants. Protect national security through fair assessment.
To human-rights organizations, refugee advocates, and humanitarian activists: please step forward on the IRGC compulsory conscription issue in Canada.
People who fled repression under the Islamic Republic are now facing immigration uncertainty because they were forced to complete conscription years or decades ago. Families are suffering severe mental distress, and some fear that returning to Iran could expose them to persecution, imprisonment, or even execution because of their opposition to the regime.
We are not asking Canada to compromise national security. We are asking for a distinction between people forced into compulsory conscription and those who voluntarily joined or supported the IRGC.
Please raise awareness, engage decision-makers, and advocate for fair, individualized assessments.

Canadian MPs: please pursue a legislative solution similar to the approach proposed in Bill C-350 to distinguish compulsory conscription from voluntary IRGC involvement.
Canada’s security matters. But targeting former conscripts while genuine regime agents may continue operating in Canada does not guarantee security. Enforcement must focus on actual conduct and credible evidence.
Families are being torn apart, children risk losing parents, and people who escaped the Islamic Republic now face accusations connected to the very regime they fled. Some could face persecution, imprisonment, or execution if returned to Iran.
We need clear legal guidelines that protect Canada from genuine threats without treating forced conscription as equivalent to voluntary involvement. Security and fairness must go hand in hand.

A young forced into uniform is not a member of the regime that forced him. Iranian conscripts served because they had no choice, and many did it just to earn the right to leave. Don't punish them twice.

In Iran, skipping the forced draft means prison and no passport. You literally have to serve just to get out of the country. Punishing men for taking the only path out of a dictatorship makes zero sense.

Iranian men don't choose conscription. Without a completed service card, you can't get a passport, a decent job, or even keep studying. Serving is often the only legal way out. Treating forced conscripts as regime members punishes its victims.

@shuvmajumdar Conscripts are victims of compulsory service, not voluntary members. The Canadian government needs to take a responsible approach and make sure innocent people forced into service are not unfairly targeted. Thank you, @shuvmajumdar
