“Dear reader! pray for yourself and for me; that the reading of these contemplations may raise you higher in the glory of Heaven; and that you may there meet the Author, with the jubilant acclamation:
Yea, Father! Heaven is such as you have written, and infinitely more.”
@Immaculata_City@Thomisticae@HazThomist Then follow the implication, would an example of Scotus’ orthodoxy be a deflection in the face of Scotists that swear by him in false attributions?
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae You stated, in accord with what Astro posted, that you “always found this* a moot point” as though Astro’s post accords with that which you refer. So, if Astro’s point isn’t included within that set, how can it be a “deflection”? I’m not presupposing anything.
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae Third, the point doesn’t stand, because the latter wasn’t challenged, it was merely an example of the former. What does that prove?
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae Second, it’s not a tu quo que because I demonstrated via an example to others, how a deflection isn’t incurred qua any sound inference by the simply appeal to a person. If, that’s the case, then other’s must be guilty of that same accusation simply because there exists debates.
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae many who came after them would defend them on their orthodoxy? Or must they deflect due to the loud voices that laud the opposing narrative?
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae Your “moot” point with the accusation of a deflection, can be stated for any one of the previous individuals antecedently mentioned. Does one deflect if they state that Scotus isn’t a precursor for reformed theology, alongside S. Augustine and the Lutherans. Citing to that effect
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae What about the fact that many of that Protestant communion, not only utilise Saint Augustine to buttress their religion, but William of Ockham, and Scotus? Clearly, many here are aware, especially @Thomisticae that few have invoked the name of S. Thomas to that effect. So what?
@Immaculata_City@HazThomist@Thomisticae Last I checked there is a whole religion grounded upon the name of S. Augustine, affirming notions explicitly condemned by the Church as heretical in the great saint’s name. Causing arguably the largest split in Christian history. So, thank you for the acknowledgment, but if one
