LAGOS DSVA CHILD SAFEGUARDING INITIATIVE FOR PARENTS: KNOW THE SIGNS
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has developed an online course to empower parents and guardians with knowledge about child abuse and related issues. This initiative serves as a preventive tool to help parents protect their children from various forms of abuse, including physical and sexual abuse, bullying, and more.
The course, led by seasoned experts in child safeguarding and protection, covers crucial topics such as Understanding Child Rights, Bullying and Peer Violence, Challenging Behavior, Positive Discipline, and Handling Disclosures of Abuse. Participants will also gain insights into the socio-cultural factors influencing child protection in Nigeria.

So far, over 14,000 teachers, guidance counselors, and first responders have successfully completed the courses on safeguarding and child protection. These programs have enhanced their understanding of child safeguarding, reporting pathways, and how to effectively handle disclosures of abuse.
We hope this Online Certified Course will enlighten and equip parents to recognize and prevent abuse, ensuring a safer future for every child.

LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO VIRAL CASE OF ALLEGED ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) was alerted to a viral video involving the alleged abuse of a young lady on Monday, 22nd June 2026, and immediately activated its response protocol.
Following the Agency’s intervention, the survivor was placed in protective custody, and she has commenced accessing psychosocial support to aid her healing journey. Contact has also been established with family members as part of ongoing efforts to ensure her safety and long-term protection. Our priority remains to support the survivor’s safety, healing, and overall wellbeing.
Preliminary findings indicate that the purported marriage being circulated in connection with the case is false and not legally recognised. The suspect, who was in police custody at Isolo Police Division, was today arraigned before Mrs. A.K Dosunmu-Uthman, Ejigbo Magistrate Court, on criminal assault charges and has subsequently been remanded.
We appreciate the support of partner organisations, concerned members of the public, and all relevant stakeholders whose prompt action contributed to the survivor’s rescue and protection. This case once again underscores that the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence concerns us all and requires collective vigilance and response.
The Lagos State Government remains resolute in its zero-tolerance stance against all forms of abuse and will continue to prioritise the protection of survivors and accountability for perpetrators.

LAGOS DSVA AND AXA MANSARD LAUNCH SMART TEENS ADVOCACY INITIATIVE BOOKLET TO EMPOWER TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in collaboration with AXA Mansard [@AXAInvest], officially launched the Smart Teens Advocacy Initiative (STAI) Booklet at the AXA Mansard Head Office, Victoria Island, Lagos on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026.
Developed by Lagos DSVA with the support of AXA Mansard, the STAI Booklet serves as a practical guide for teenagers and young adults on safety, respect, personal rights, healthy relationships, and protection from Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). The launch provided an opportunity to formally introduce the booklet and reinforce the importance of safeguarding children and young people in an increasingly complex and digital world.
Students from Falomo Senior Secondary School and Ireti Senior Grammar School attended the event alongside representatives of DSVA and AXA Mansard. Hosted by Mr. Olusesan Ogunyoye, the programme featured a welcome address by the Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Health Limited, Mr. Tope Adeniyi, who reaffirmed AXA Mansard’s commitment to promoting the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of children and young people.
In her keynote address, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, described the launch as more than the unveiling of a publication, noting that it marks the beginning of a movement to equip teenagers with the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools needed to navigate today’s realities safely and responsibly.
She commended AXA Mansard for its partnership through the AXA Week for Good Campaign, themed “Being a Child Shouldn’t Be a Risk,” and noted that the Smart Teens Advocacy Initiative builds on the Agency’s existing Safeguarding the Rights of a Child (STRAC) programme by addressing issues such as identity, peer influence, consent, social media engagement, personal boundaries, and healthy relationships.
A major highlight of the event was the official unveiling of the STAI Booklet by Mrs. Adebola Surakat, Chief Marketing Officer, AXA Mansard; Mr. Tope Adeniyi; and Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi.
The event also featured poems and speeches by students, as well as an insightful session by Mrs. Adenike Omiwale, Psychologist at the Lagos State DSVA, titled “Protecting Teenagers in a Changing World: What We Must Do Differently.”
The event concluded with closing remarks by Mrs. Omowunmi Mabel Adewusi, Human Resources Director, AXA Mansard, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to child protection and safer communities.
The launch of the Smart Teens Advocacy Initiative Booklet reflects the sustained partnership between Lagos DSVA and AXA Mansard in advancing child protection, prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, and the empowerment of young people to thrive in safety, dignity, and respect.

Fathers play a powerful role, not only in providing, but in shaping values, building trust, and creating homes where everyone feels seen, safe, and protected.
Lagos DSVA also recognises the importance of fathers in raising children free from violence and abuse. Safe homes begin with adults who choose compassion, guidance, and accountability.
To all fathers and father figures who show up with intention, thank you. Your presence matters, your example matters, and the role you play in shaping a better future cannot be overstated.
Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Lagos DSVA!

@BreakupAddict@MrMekzy_@ogheneyxle We won't be able to take on this case as it falls outside our jurisdiction. Thank you for bringing our attention to it regardless.
Childhood is meant to be protected, not survived and that is why we are proud to join AXA [@AXAMansard] for an awareness walk focused on child protection and safe parenting across communities.
This initiative reinforces the urgent need to speak up, educate, and take collective responsibility in preventing violence against children.
Every step taken represents a commitment to strengthen awareness, encourage reporting, and support prevention so every child can grow up with dignity, safety, and the freedom to simply be a child.
