The Machine Arena has released its Tokenomics, and it’s full of red flags:

🚩 Team has 10% unlock at TGE
🚩🚩 Investors have 10% unlock at TGE
🚩🚩🚩 The community has... 2% unlock at TGE

But it’s even worse than that.

👇🏻 Here are the 7 red flags that you should be aware of:

This message is not meant to be a hit piece of FUD.

It’s meant to be a message that tries to change things before it’s too late.

@themachinesgame has raised $5 million from prominent investors in March 2024, and if the tokenomics doesn't change, it will be a big problem.

1. The sum of their tokenomics adds up to 98%

This is obviously not normal and not transparent.

There are two possibilities:

1. It's a typo, and it's unintentional (but for such an important announcement, you should check the comms 20 times)

2. It's intentional (but how can you publish a tokenomics where the sum of the allocations is not 100%?)

At the end of the article it says: 'We are also considering how to distribute the remaining 2.2% of the token allocation set aside for P2A campaigns.'

Firstly, 98% + 2.2% still doesn't add up to 100%, and secondly, not everyone reads the article in detail, so it's important to mention in the list of terms that there would be a missing 2% and why.

As the TGE date has not yet been announced, why not wait until you have decided how to distribute the entire 100%?

This isn’t a very transparent decision.

2. Team has 10% unlock at TGE

I don't think I've ever seen a tokenomics with a 10% team unlock at TGE.

'The Team allocation refers to the current individuals actively working on The Machines Arena... to incentivise active contribution in the early stages of the game's growth.'

• So if the team doesn’t have a 10% TGE unlock, there is no incentive to actively contribute?

• Where is the long-term commitment to development and community?

• If you don’t want to dump at TGE, why do you have the unlock in the first place?

This doesn’t give a trustworthy impression to the community.

3. Directive Games has 15% of the supply

I know what you’re thinking:

"How is it possible that the team has 10% of the total supply, and the game studio also has 15% of the total supply?"

Well yes, I think this is also one of the first times I’ve seen a tokenomics where the team and the game studio have such misaligned incentives.

Even if a game studio is making multiple games, it should only have 1 allocation and eventually reward the team members, put like that it looks like a bonus on production for the employees.

I wonder: have they checked even 1 other Web3 Gaming tokenomics?

Didn’t the advisors or investors raise any concerns?

4. Advisors have 10% unlock at TGE

The role of the advisor is supposed to be someone who advises on the long-term sustainability of the project and is rewarded in the long term.

Instead, we are once again seeing a 10% unlock for advisors at TGE, giving them a short-term opportunity and increasing the potential selling pressure at TGE.

5. The community has 2% unlock at TGE

While team, investors, and advisors have 10% unlock at TGE, the community has only 2%.

And it’s also vested.

An ethos of Web3 Gaming is that the community should come first, but this tokenomics communicates anything but that.

What worries me is that it has gone unnoticed, and the broader community hasn’t seen these red flags.

6. Airdrop has vesting

'15-35% available at TGE based on individual user's P2A participation and unlock criteria.'

The remaining percentage is then vested over 6 months.

I would like to make a case: if the team, investors, advisors had cliff and vesting, I could also understand the choice of airdrop vesting.

It's not common, but it's understandable.

But given that they all have large amounts of unlocks at TGE, this is a red flag and I hope their community will speak out against this decision.

7. Communications are unprofessional

Tokenomics is one of the most important things to announce ahead of a TGE.

It was announced with one of the flattest graphics I've ever seen and very little effort, both on Twitter and in the article.

If you're not ready with the graphics, and the tokenomics doesn't even add up to 100%, then it's probably best to wait a few more weeks before posting, isn't it?

Maybe making cool content isn't their top priority, but with $5 million in funding in March 2024, at least one graphic from Fiverr seems reasonable.

• Last post of the thread

Everyone in Web3 knows the graphic you post in the first comment with 'this is the last tweet of the thread' to avoid scams.

They didn’t have a personalised one and even re-posted the same generic graphic they made for the announcement without any changes.

This lack of attention to detail shows that there's little care in their overall strategy.

• Follow up

Perhaps some members of the community missed this important announcement, they could have at least posted some content on Twitter in the days that followed, explaining the decisions they had made.

Instead, they reverted to posting 'ultimate jackpot' content and giving away $RON in the comments, like it’s a casino, while crucial tokenomics details went unnoticed.

I don’t enjoy writing these types of posts.

But this tokenomics is so concerning that I don't want anyone to lose money.

I’m also not a tokenomics guy but these flags are very easy to spot.

I really hope this changes things and they go back to the drawing board and rethink the tokenomics.
