Wonderful meeting with prime minister Mohammad Yunus in Dhaka 🇧🇩.
It was such a pleasure to have a long meeting with my old friend Yunus in the state guest house in Dhaka. When I visited him a year ago professor Yunus had spent the entire day in court to defend himself against government harassment. Now, after the student led uprising, he is the chief adviser, the de facto Prime Minister of Bangladesh! ☀️
We discussed how we can help Bangladesh develop green industries. There are huge opportunities in the carbon market to restore mangroves, plant trees and develop eco agriculture. Rural and urban roof top solar and solar panels in agricultural fields offer great opportunities. The same does pumped storage and a hydropower deal with Nepal and India.
We also discussed Bangladesh relations to Myanmar and the opportunities for peace, the need to protect the Hindu minority in Bangladesh, the process towards election and long term stability in Bangladesh and a lot more.
Thanks to Kavin Kumar Kandasamy Joseph Mariampillai Sushil Pokharel Amita Pandey and Ashok Kumar for joining.
Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus urges global efforts to make the upcoming Rohingya conference a success, aiming to revive global attention & support for the long-persecuted minority. He made the call during a meeting with UNHCR chief @FilippoGrandi in Dhaka. #RohingyaCrisis
What an inspiration — every time — to meet Dr Yunus, @ChiefAdviserGoB, one of the few true humanist leaders of our times.
I assured him that UNHCR will continue to support Bangladesh as the host of #Rohingya refugees and as it strives to find solutions to their displacement.

A new @TrialWatch report concludes that the conviction of Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus for alleged violations of Bangladesh’s labour law appears to be politically motivated.
