Last Sunday afternoon, my husband & I decided to eat at the shack by the sea. I ordered a kilo of fresh tamban & had half made into kinilaw & half grilled for a total of PHP 400 (6.5 USD), which we then paired w boiled sweet potatoes. Lamiiii kaayo.

At the unholy hour of 1:30 a.m., my daughter, along with two of her girlfriends, casually walked all the way from Starbucks in Matina IT Park to the area near Davao Doctors Hospital like it was just a normal thing, and I wasn't worried while waiting.

Duterte was able to institutionalize security & disaster response in Davao bec he regarded the mayoralty as a position of governance rather than rulership. Thru this form of leadership, he recognized that years of dilawan-style natl govt couldn't be relied upon in times of crisis
