Ancel Langwa (@langwaancel): "Throughout the chapter, there are key themes, we talk about the weight of futility. The feeling that no matter how hard you fight the system, it doesn't budge. That's what Sonny felt. He had written letters. He had protested, he had marched. He had fought with the police. But all of that going to jail, coming back to the same things that caused him to do that anyway.

Second, we're talking about generational cycles. How the trauma of an absent father can repeat itself. He hated his father because his father was absent. But he, in turn became even the same person that he hated in his father - three children, three daughters from three different women.

We also see music as a bridge, talk about jazz and gospel as two sides of the same coin, both seeking a crown or an escape from hard life."
