They did make one mistake.
They mistakenly thought the most powerful military in the Middle East that had defeated the Arab armies arrayed against it in six days could defeat a lone, freshly painted, well-marked, correctly identified, non-combatant, virtually unarmed @USNavy ship.

For almost 59 years, every member of Congress has refused to attend a memorial service honoring our 34 fallen shipmates.
Even the annual memorial service we held in their own backyard.
For decades we held an annual memorial service honoring our fallen shipmates on the anniversary of the attack at the site of the #USSLiberty mass grave in Arlington National Cemetery (Mass Grave #1817 in Section 34).
Not a single member of Congress ever attended that memorial service.
You are asking “courageous Democrat vets” to support a statement made by a Democrat candidate for Senate.
We have an “ask” directed at every member of Congress.
Explain to us why no member of Congress has ever attended a memorial service for 34 Americans killed in action by the @IDF during the attack on our ship.
THAT is the challenge no member of Congress has the courage to take up.
Even you.

THEY STILL REMEMBER - The Survivors Some memories do not fade with time.
This image captures USS Liberty survivors standing in solemn remembrance, honoring the men who were killed on June 8, 1967.
The years have passed, but the bond between these men — and the memory of those they lost — remains unbroken.
What makes this moment so powerful is that the men who survived still return to honor the men who never came home.
They remember their shipmates.
They remember the sacrifice.
And they continue to carry that responsibility with dignity, reverence, and resolve.
This is more than a photograph.
It is a reminder that the story of the USS Liberty is not just history sitting in a book or buried in the past. It is personal.
It lives in the hearts of the survivors, in the names etched on memorial stones, and in the ongoing mission to ensure that service, sacrifice, and truth are never forgotten.
We honor the fallen, and we stand with the survivors who continue to bear witness.
Their presence is a testament to loyalty, memory, and the enduring duty to tell the truth.
Honor the 34.
Stand with the Survivors.
Preserve the Truth

We are an organization made up of survivors of the June 8, 1967, @IDF attack on the #USSLiberty.
The attack killed 34 of our shipmates and wounded at least 174 others from a ship’s complement of 294.
To date, the US government has not investigated the attack on our ship.
That leaves the blood of our fallen shipmates available to be used by people and organizations whose agenda you claim to be abhorrent.
It never ceases to amaze and outrage us at how casually you and your colleagues in Congress during and since the attack on our ship claim to find “anti-Semitism” so distasteful while refusing to do anything to remove the blood of our fallen shipmates from the “anti-Semitism” arsenal.
We look forward to the day when members of Congress ensure that no country attacks a @USNavy ship or commits war crimes against the United States with impunity, as you have allowed @Israel to do.
We hope that there are #USSLiberty survivors alive to see that day.

You might also want to thank the @IDF for being so inept that they couldn't overcome a lone, freshly painted, well-marked, correctly identified, non-combatant, virtually unarmed @USNavy ship even when allied with the President of the United States.
The mistake the @IDF made was in not being able to accomplish their goal of sinking the ship and ensuring there were no survivors.
A fact that almost every member of Congress during and since the attack (like @RepFine and @RepDonBacon) find distressing since they are spending an inordinate amount of time lying about the attack and coverup of the attack while at the same time refusing to confront us directly here on X.
We did survive.
And we will do everything we can do to ensure those who have stonewalled our effort to ensure the US government investigates the attack are held accountable for their actions.

Meet James "Smitty" Smith. USS Liberty survivor.
“We weren’t statistics. We were sailors fighting for each other.” – James “Smitty” Smith.
On June 8, 1967, the USS Liberty, a clearly marked U.S. Navy ship, was attacked in international waters by Israeli Defense Forces during the Six-Day War.
📍34 American sailors were killed.
📍171 were wounded.
📍The ship was bombed, strafed, and struck by torpedo.
📍Crewmen worked through fire, smoke, and flooding to keep the ship alive.
The attack was brutal. The loyalty among the crew was unbreakable.
Survivors like “Smitty” Smith remember not just the explosions, but the courage of the men beside them. Nearly six decades later, they continue to honor the 34 and stand firm in their call for the truth about what happened aboard the USS Liberty.
Speaking of @IDF torpedo boats, I know that @RepDonBacon will write this off as “a joke” or as evidence that we “hate @Israel” as he is wont to do whenever the @IDF is shown in a less than spectacular light, but I saw one of the torpedo boats as it slowly sailed up our port side well within a stone’s throw of our ship.
That was before they deliberately machine-gunned life rafts we had dropped over the side in anticipation of abandoning ship.
Lloyd Painter’s testimony to that effect has been removed from the Report of the @USNavy Court of Inquiry. See Lloyd Painter's Affidavit https://t.co/XcFWlVGAUC
