The impact of A Shot For Life funding is the driving force in every decision we make as an organization, and it is the most important piece of what we do. Throughout the year, thousands of athletes across New England contribute to cancer research at Mass General Brigham. It was great to stop by the MGB Cancer Center last week to get updates on the progress of our funding from Dr. Bryan Choi and Dr. Eric Grewal.

Behind every ASFL athlete posting on social media, there is a real person with a real family that is impacted by their efforts. To walk through the lab and see those treatments being built and to walk through the floors where patients were receiving the treatments, it was an unforgettable experience for our 2026 intern group who was seeing it all for the first time.

Thank you to @ethman43 and @nehoopjournal for highlighting our ASFL Challenge in MA, RI, and CT! The shooting talent level on these rosters is extremely high and our players’ impact in cancer research is life changing. Breaking a record for our basketball department, in 2026 we raised $130,000 for cancer research. The ASFL Challenge has been a staple of our organization over the last 14 years and we’re incredibly proud of every great player and person that has worn this jersey. We can’t thank our 2026 athletes enough for taking pride in carrying that legacy on. Thank you for showcasing their hard work as a part of the ASFL Family!

Congratulations to Jack Olinto of Archbishop Williams on winning the 2026 A Shot For Life Challenge, officially claiming the title as “The Best Shooter in Massachusetts”! He shot 88.96% over the two-hour competition against the best high school shooters in the state. He also helped raise $55,000 for cancer research 💙🏀 #ASFLFamily

Thank you to @TrevorHass and the @BostonGlobe for your coverage of the A Shot For Life Challenge! Started in 2013, the ASFL Challenge brings together the states top shooters where the winner walks away named the best shooter in their state. Many participants have gone on to play at the D1 level, and there have been 16 professional basketball alumni of this event.

The ASFL Challenge is a two hour shooting competition between some of the best shot makers in Massachusetts. If we did this event 10 times, we would likely have 10 different winners. To come out victorious a player must not only have an incredibly good shooting night, but also stay mentally tough over the course of two hours.
