I wholeheartedly agree with @SpencerGuard:

“Analysts, journalists, policymakers, and the public must demand a higher standard of rigor and context before allowing questionable data to shape international perceptions and policy.”

Far too many just run with Hamas figures forgetting (or ignoring) that they are an internationally-recognized terrorist group who kidnap, torture, and kill without hesitation, including babies. Don’t they realize Hamas would lie to advance their propaganda objectives?

Will makes a good point, but I would also say it's an obvious point.

If CTI analysts don't have geopolitical events at the fore when working, then they aren't doing the intelligence part of CTI.

Looking into the grey, providing assessments, and having consideration for all aspects of the environment are key components of an intelligent analysts role.

I have never seen a battle or war where casualty numbers can be known immediately after a strike. Not in hours, not in minutes. Also never seen a war where main stream media will immediately run numbers from local sources (aka Hamas) while saying they can’t verify the military statements. Despite the repeated examples of local sources (Hamas) providing wild numbers (Al-Ahi) or claiming no combatants were killed (hostage rescue). In an age where main stream media is struggling for credibility and survival you would think they would not repeatedly keep doing this in pursuit of sensationalism.
