A tech founder lands VC funding, usually from overseas. Too much liquidity drives them from Ogba to Ikoyi as new residence, and it’s madness from there.

Now, they are always on the computer. They barely have time to socialize. One night at 2am, they crave Akara and Pap—and they go, “what I have someone deliver this to my apartment rather than picking up my car keys, driving through town to eat.” Next, “how about an app?”

Meanwhile, unemployed and poor Nigerians have all the time in the world to scout for food joints, and especially where they can get it cheap. I mean, when you are unemployed, saving time is really the least of your problems as that’s the only way you compensate for being poor.

At the end of the day, tech guy and his fellow 1% of the 1% will be the market for this new app. After 6 months, app will disappear because use case is not a concern for the majority. Not to mention that there are already 2 thousand similar apps in this market.

Na so them go squander investors money and run go Canada.

I’ve joined @stripe to work on @atlas, which feels fitting because I’ve spent half my professional life wrestling with the “fun” parts of starting a company — incorporation paperwork, EIN purgatory, registered agent mysteries, and the universal question of: “Why can’t this just be easier, really? And how do I get it done faster so I can really get started serving my customers?”

Atlas actually does make it easier. I’ve used it four times, and each time I thought, “This product clearly aims to save founders from early-stage administrative entropy.” And then I thought: "Death to founder tax! Death to formation drag! Long live velocity." Yes, this is how my internal monologue works, in Thomas Paine-like save-our-civilization slogans. (Word to my PoliSci and Philosophy undergrad two decades ago!)

Anyway, onward... I’ve also used other Stripe products for over decade as user — Checkout, Billing, Identity, Radar, Connect, Treasury, Capital — and the throughline is obvious: Stripe is an accelerant for builders like. A no-joke catalyst. The kind kind of unblocker that quickly turns “ugh, I guess I have to deal with this” into “cool, solved, back to building the 'real thing'.”

So when the chance came to join a team obsessed with infrastructure, craftsmanship, and materially reducing the startup founding tax… yeah, that was an easy yes. This role feels like home. "A perfect role fit," I said to my friends.
