Our lab is looking for motivated Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers to study how nucleo-cytoplasmic protein partitioning affect proteostasis, autophagy and aging using C. elegans. DM here. Please check our website: https://t.co/15VmvjZie4
@Dr_Perreault Quantity is blindly rewarded by many academic institutions that have a huge misunderstanding of impact and reputation. It also makes it virtually impossible to properly evaluate productivity and impact at fellowship-grant levels. Science would gain with fewer and better papers.
Validation of tissue-specific RNAi systems in C. elegans reveals a converging role for polyubiquitin UBQ-1/UBC in vitellogenin ... https://t.co/bCmySnmehw #biorxiv_genetic
Finally, we found that polyubiquitin (UBQ-1/UBC) isn’t just a player in proteostasis, but is also essential for maintaining transcription of highly expressed genes, including vitellogenins. Our work uncovered a regulatory link between UBQ-1, vitellogenin metabolism, and lifespan.
Preprint in time for #KSUbiquitin26! We validated commonly used strains for tissue-specific RNAi systems in C. elegans. We uncovered the germline as a key tissue for proteasomal function and vitellogenin turnover, and UBQ-1/UBC as a vitellogenin modulator. https://t.co/5XGPIAXlcJ
We found that germline proteasomes are highly active. Gonadally accumulated vitellogenins are major contributors to total polyUb proteins. Striking difference in proteasomal burden between germline and soma reshapes how we think about tissue-specific proteostatic dynamics.
Our study of the effect of XPO1 inhibitor KPT-330 on memory in AD mice was just published in @GeroScienceAGE! Many thanks to the members of our team and our collaborators involved in this challenging but insightful study!

Our laboratory is extremely grateful to NB Research @NBHRF for supporting our translational research on neurodegenerative diseases via the Research Professional Fund mechanism. Thank you! Toute notre équipe est vraiment reconnaissante de votre support. Merci beaucoup!
Thank you to the team @sbpdiscovery for inviting me to a panel discussion on careers in science with current postdoctoral fellows and the challenges and opportunities with transitioning back to Canada to lead a lab! Reminiscing on how awesome and a great science hub San Diego is!
Glad to see that our provincial government is feeling the same way about this. Talented students are everywhere, and proper nutrition is one way to make sure they all thrive - the impact on the future of society is enormous. @susanholt@Gov_NB
BREAKING: NFL Legend Jerry Rice and Wife erase $667,000 in School Lunch Debt Across 103 Schools — "A Victory Greater Than the Super Bowl" ❤️
Jerry Rice and his wife have wiped out over $667,000 in unpaid school lunch debt, benefiting thousands of children across the country. 👍🏾👍🏾
IT'S HAPPENING! 💥 I'm psyched to launch the collaboration between @qedScience & @openrxiv@biorxivpreprint! Let's go back to concentrating on making discoveries, and not on “getting published”, because its not going to matter soon, when feedback & evaluation are detached from the journals. Preprint + q.e.d = your science is out there, and anyone can appreciate it 👇
I highly recommend for those who like to have an extra pair of A-eyes before submitting for peer review (which might end up being similar). This helps identify limitations in a study and provides solutions to address them, without the typical Reviewer #2 insufferable vibe.
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT📣: I haven’t been this excited to be part of something new in 15 years… Thrilled to reveal the passion project I’ve been working on for the past year and a half!🙀🥳 It started from my frustration with the depressing effect that the current publishing system has on the well-being of myself, my team, and pretty much every scientist I know (maybe you’ve noticed from my stupid jokes… :) I was exhausted of dealing with the huge delays, reviewers that can be abusive, and how arbitrary it all is. Unfortunately, the most important factors are often WHO your reviewers are and who YOU are... It’s clear we need alternatives or at least ways to improve the situation. So, together with a really special and talented team we worked to develop this idea into “qed” a platform where you can get CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on your own work or CRITICALLY assess other people’s papers. It can be a real difference maker if many of you join us (thousands have tried it already, but today we release a NEW and much stronger version ;) Let’s harness qed to put the power back in the scientists’ hands, to do, to read & to publish science on our own terms. I’m dying for you to TRY IT, and it’s very simple - just drop a paper (the link to the website is in the replies👇) - it’s completely secure, private, and free, and you get results fast. Please show your support, SHARE, tell your friends, and let’s be the revolution 🫵!
@MYOFB5@prof_brunt@Gov_NB One of the first hit if you were to Google “food insecurity and academic achievement” is a study of Nova Scotia kids. One of multiple studies pointing to the same conclusion. Free breakfasts will directly mitigate the negative impacts of food insecurity. https://t.co/PocY99ZMqO
One in four New Brunswick children starts their school day hungry – not anymore.
This year, all schools will be offering free, healthy breakfast. 🍎

Phenomenal work from a former Brown Biochem advisee (now at MPI) that got published in Cell recently. I wrote a LOR 6 years ago for his scholarship apps: "Ian is positioning himself as an emerging scholar bridging Archeology and Biology." Oustanding work! https://t.co/yIIgMfdjVx
Human lifespan increased rapidly in the 20th century due in large part to a marked decrease in childhood mortality. Children were SAVED: Sanitation, Antibiotics, Vaccines, Education and the power of Data. Fostering healthy aging is one of the 21st century challenges.
My proposed solutions are to 1. preprint everything and let the editors of journals bid on preprints (instead of sifting through submissions), the $ would go into paying for their absurd publication fee. 2. Pay peer reviewers. https://t.co/ujfxfV7Yz7
@OdedRechavi I just tested your pre-submission AI system. I came in relatively cautious, but surprisingly the AI-generated analysis was quite good. I can see this helping authors identify and address key gaps in claims before they get their manuscript peer reviewed by experts. Nicely done!
