@exfatloss@sudas1891@Only1MoreThing@CarnivoreAugust Some of the human clinical trials of PR have essentially been 0.8g protein per kg of body weight which is the RDA. At least one was 0.8 g protein per kg of lean mass, which is a bit below the RDA. Don’t think any went below that.
Very cool story from @WiscoSurgMetab about the surprisingly protective effects of sleeve gastrectomy on the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease in a mouse model! Glad to have been able to assist with this project.
It is hard to imagine that cutting away a portion of the stomach could prevent future Alzheimer’s Disease but here, in our first of many stories to come, we show just that! SG’s effects on the brain are profound and long lasting! @LammingLab@WiscSurgery

Please spread the word on hiring in our department. We are searching broadly but particularly interested in Systems and Synthetic Biology. I am chairing this faculty search, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
1. We’re excited to share our latest paper, “Decline of chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) in aging impairs macrophage clearance of senescent cells” published
in @NatureAging led by @Beccasereda is now out! https://t.co/jRh81qso1R
Why do muscle fibres shrink with age?
Not because myofibrils get smaller — because there are fewer of them.
We followed this from whole-muscle down to individual myofibrils, in humans and mice, across ageing and disuse.

@joeljackson@mike_lustgarten@wethebots_ The orals either have to be taken fasted or don’t work on wild-type mice because they don’t bind to the mouse GLP1 receptor.
@humanomega1 @mkaeberlein Actually the ITP controls rarely pass 900 days (the number used here refers to median lifespan, not the lifespan of the longest-lived animals), and is a good counter to applying the 900 day rule without consideration of strain, sex, background diet and other factors.
@jpsenescence@AgingBiology Can we please stop calling Sema a CR mimetic? It doesn’t mimic the effects of CR, it actually induces CR. Thanks from all the compounds that are hopeful to mimic the benefits of CR without reducing calories.
@MartinBJensen Same as you - pharmaceutical induction of calorie restriction extends lifespan and healthspan in aged female mice. That would have been a fair if less exciting title!
@VictoriaWest992 Actually no - we found the glucose/fructose mixture- equivalent to HFCS - to generally be bad. But 100% fructose was surprisingly beneficial for some phenotypes (in mice) as long as there was no glucose provided.
Check out the latest pre-print from our lab, the work of star graduate student @mmsonsalla! If you (a mouse who is extremely online) reduces dietary protein and increase dietary carbohydrates, does it matter what type of carbohydrates you are eating? Find out from our paper:
For those who are wondering about the human relevance of our BCAA work, a new paper showing dietary BCAAs are associated with plasma BCAAs and plasma BCAAs are associated with multiple Cardiometabolic risk factors
