If you want to see how an autocracy handles a financial heist inside its own palace, look at Turkey right now.
The latest saga surrounding Erdogan's inner circle refuses to end, and it tells you everything about the total collapse of justice in this country.
A ruling party deputy was caught in a multi-billion lira stock market extraction. The palace panicked. Government media then released a story claiming she simply "refunded the money."
No documents. No bank receipts.
They expect 86 million citizens to ignore basic criminal law. Returning stolen funds does not erase the crime. The legal penalty is double the amount, reaching 4.4 billion liras.
But the question nobody dares answer: where did a political official find 163 million liras in cash to make the initial investment?
The double standard is staggering.
A university student posts a critical tweet and anti-terror police kick down their door at midnight. Ekrem Imamoglu wins an election and gets 2,300 years of fabricated charges. But when a regime insider loots billions, the state issues a polite press release and calls it resolved.
This is not a government managing an economy.
It is a money laundering operation with a national flag.
A HUGE LIQUIDITY CRISIS IS UNFOLDING IN TURKEY RIGHT NOW.
One of Turkey’s biggest fund managers failed to meet investor withdrawal requests.
Then another manager reported the same problem with $7.5 billion worth of funds.
Investors rushed for the exits, pulling as much as $1 billion from funds in a single day.
Turkish stocks dropped more than 6%, after already falling over 2% the day before.
Now authorities are stepping in.
Interbank borrowing limits have been increased 10X, while several funds are being liquidated.
The scary part is what happens next.
Funds need cash to pay investors, so they sell assets.
Prices fall, and more investors panic and ask for their money back.
If that cycle keeps going, Turkey’s liquidity problem can get much worse very fast.
🇹🇷🏳️🌈 Yesterday, Turkish authorities raided #LGBTQ+ and HIV organisations, activists and venues, detained dozens of people and blocked social-media accounts, including #Amnesty Türkiye’s account on X. #Erdoğan’s government is escalating its assault on fundamental rights, equality and freedom of expression. The EDP condemns this authoritarian crackdown. Europe must stand firmly with Türkiye’s civil society and LGBTQ+ community, and defend those fighting for freedom and dignity.
🇹🇷🌈 We condemn yet another escalation in repression in Turkey. This weekend, police arrested dozens of people, including LGBTI activists, and raided several associations, while authorities blocked websites and social media accounts connected to LGBTI organisations.
This is a new attack on people’s rights and freedoms and is in clear contradiction to Turkey’s international obligations and its duty to protect the fundamental rights of all citizens.
TC Anayasası 10. Madde

Sinem #Dedetaş, the young mayor of #Üsküdar, did not lose at the ballot box. She won. However, today she was detained as part of the latest so-called corruption investigation, which is part of an ongoing campaign against #Turkey’s democratic opposition. In today’s Turkey, supporting Ekrem #İmamoğlu and advocating for democratic change is enough to make you a target. Elected mayors are being removed from office one after another through politically motivated investigations. When those chosen by the electorate are treated as enemies, democracy itself is under attack. Europe cannot remain silent.
