It smells like burning plastic everywhere. My eyes sting. Its hard to breathe— I say this from relative privilege hundreds of kilometers away from the fire itself. Imagine those right in the middle of it. People are joking that it smells just like back home in Pakistan right now; what does that tell you?

This is the world we are creating for our children— leaving behind a decaying, burning, dying planet— decimated and drained of every last remnant, every last vestige of natural beauty and mineral sustenance the earth provides for us.

This is what the capitalist class has given us; what the western ruling elite have deliberately built circa 1492— a monstrous behemoth relentless in its pursuit of profit at all costs;

All this capitalist, imperialist, colonial violence; the invisibilized systemic violence; the forever wars and the genocides we analyze and bear witness to daily; implemented and administered to seize, dominate and transform nature into wealth— until nothing of substance remains; until there won't be a single grain of soil remaining which they haven't extracted from;

Until the very last thing keeping us alive— the air that we breathe— can be bottled and sold back to us.

That is their aim. That is what we must prepare for.
