Having covered Mladic's monstrous crimes in real time, I had dared to hope Serbia would not do this. I had hoped that today's young Serbs' dreams of joining Europe, being in the democracy and human rights club, might add an element of common sense, morality and restraint. But must we now conclude this IS who Serbia wants to be? A nation aligned with, and honouring, a convicted war criminal, a mass murderer, guilty of the most heinous crime under the sun: genocide. "London Calling" was released in 1979 as the title track and lead single from The Clash's third studio album, London Calling. Produced by Guy Stevens, the song fused punk rock with reggae, rockabilly, ska and other influences, showcasing the band's increasingly diverse musical style. It reached No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was also released as a single in the United States, although it failed to enter the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite its relatively modest chart performance, "London Calling" became one of The Clash's most iconic songs and has since been regarded as one of the defining recordings of the punk era.

Here is what I believe.

We have been separated by people who profit from our separation.

That is the business model. Keep us apart and sell us the fight.

Here is what that separation does.
People stop talking. They stop talking, so they stop knowing each other. They stop knowing each other, so they fear each other. They fear each other, so they hate each other. You break that chain at the first link, not the last.

I also believe there is one true existential threat to this democracy and his name is Donald Trump.

So I will sit down with anyone who has a platform and sees in Trump what I see.

That is why I sat down with Nick Fuentes. His views on race and women are antithetical to mine. What he has said about the Holocaust and Nazism is indefensible. He is also demonstrably persuasive and he has a bullhorn that no amount of cancellation has taken from him. A million-plus people listen to him. I wanted to hear it myself instead of reading what I am supposed to think about it.

Nick and I agree on almost nothing. We agree on Trump.

Nothing else we argue about matters if Trump is not stopped. And the people who see what he is do not all think like me. If your standard is that everyone who opposes him has to agree with you first, you have already handed him the country.

I will take one piece of common ground over ten more years of shouting across the same street.
