Genomic sequencing shows that the Ebola virus from Nigeria’s recently reported only imported case is highly similar to that from Kenya’s @MOH_Kenya reported first imported case, differing by only one mutation.
My thanks to the sequencing teams at @NCDCgov and the Institute of Genomics and Global Health @RedeemersUni , Ede, and to @christian_happi for this excellent work.
We are forging ahead with public health control measures while awaiting results of further investigations and testing.
Our approach is that of solidarity and global cooperation, appreciating the role our sister African nations, @AfricaCDC, Technical partners and experts @WHO, @DrTedros, @Dr_JeanKaseya, Prof. Aliko Ahmed @alikothe3rd, @Fmohnigeria as well key International partners especially The Bureau of Global Health Security and Diplomacy (GHSD) @StateDept.
We are determined to do our best to protect the lives and livelihoods of our people and we urge all Nigerians and our partners to work together with us. By the grace of we shall succeed and rise above this public health emergency as we did in 2014.
There is a claim going round online that Alimosho General Hospital has only one functional dialysis machine. This is false. Here are the facts as of today.
The Dialysis Centre at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando has 8 dialysis machines, and all 8 are working. 6 serve our general dialysis patients every day, and 2 are dedicated to patients living with HIV or hepatitis, in line with infection prevention and control best practice.
Sessions start as early as 6am, and the Centre stays open until the last patient is done, often till midnight, so no patient is turned back. We run up to 200 dialysis sessions every month, supported by a dedicated standby generator.
Dialysis is also available at other public hospitals in Lagos, including LASUTH, General Hospital Lagos, General Hospital Gbagada, IDH Yaba and FMC Ebute Metta, with more centres coming on stream.
The health of Lagosians is our priority at the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
One of the funniest things i experienced practicing in Nigeria was when they brought a 'Masquerade' to the emergency room.
He had apparently been in a fight with another crazy human who beat him up and i could see blood seeping through the costume but the Masquerade enchanters who brought him insisted that i couldn't remove the costume or reveal his face because it was a taboo for 'Ordinary human' to see the gods face to face 😅.
But the gods are bleeding and saying help me doctor.
I had to refer.
Lagos State Government must as a matter of necessity declare state of emergency on:
1. Street beggars and urchins.
2. Environmental sanitation.
3. Excessive rent/price on properties.
Outside there is a jungle.
UPDATE ON MY MAI SUYA: I have now found them. Apparently, someone came to buy N15,000 suya from them. He was their last customer and had bought up all the suya they had left.
When the guy was about to enter his car, armed robbers collected his keys and drove the car away. My mai suya guys were completely unaware of what had happened because, strangely, the guy never even came back to them to say that any such thing had happened.
It wasn’t until they set up the next day to start their business that they were arrested and detained on the allegation that they must have colluded with the armed robbers.
Their phones were sent to the DSS for analysis to check whether there was any communication between them and anybody leading up to the carjacking. There wasn’t.
The good news is that the guys have now been released because, apparently, the car has now been found. Their phones have yet to be returned by the DSS though.
Following their release, they asked the Police whether they could resume at their old spot and the Police advised that they wait until the DSS releases their phones and the matter is fully resolved. They have, therefore, set up temporarily on Bala Sokoto Way. They had lost business for 10 days and were already looking emaciated.
I asked if they needed a lawyer and they said they didn’t think so right now. They were empathetic to the guy that had been robbed of his car and were pleased that it had now been recovered. Thank you to @egi_nupe and @PwettyFeet who offered free legal services should they need them.
Unknown to me, there are neighbours I didn’t even know were on Twitter who have reached out to express their concerns, on the basis that they have been part of our community for years. We all, therefore, agreed that we would raise a little money to help them get back on their feet.
I went to look for the DPO today but he wasn’t there. I’ll go again tomorrow to ask about their phones.
They are out and back to striving to make an honest living. And no, I didn’t buy Suya today. That wasn’t the purpose.

We are delighted to announce that we will come together with our supporters and community for a special parade, starting from 2pm on Sunday 31 May 👇
KAN U believe it??? Arsenal Forever. The Gunners worked so hard for this. Difficult but they fought.
Very well deserved. Come on you gunners #congratulations@arsenal#arsenal
There is something about Nigeria 🇳🇬 that someone needs to research: its ability to elicit speech in non verbal autistic children. A friend just told me about her 5 year old daughter, who had never uttered a word while they were in Canada. However, after just few months in Nigeria
It is with great pride that I present to you the very first Nigerian Adire chess board. Each one sells for a million naira(700 dollars).
It’s a limited collection of just 100 pieces. 50% of proceeds goes towards charity and I will personally hand deliver to the first 20 people.
The first Nigerian man through @GiftOfChess to help setup a waste to plastic chess sets manufacturing factory in the slums of Kibera Kenya 🇰🇪.
That employs people and produces chess boards to promote chess education in underserved communities across Kenya.
I like that Prof goes to all these platforms and tells them that their methods are futile and they will never work.
I have my gripe with prof because of his affiliations but if he can tell the whole clergy and political class that they can never make it. I’ll manage it.
