Do you imagine Roman pagans were drawn into Christianity because Christians sang hymns and declaimed biblical verses at them?

Fool.

Pagans revered Christians for remaining inviolably true to themselves, beholding that fidelity in the unflinching fearlessness with which they confronted death—slaughtered for their convictions in the amphitheaters, crucified upon crosses, consumed by fire—entering death without lamentation.

Rome had watched men die for centuries, it had heard the pleading and frantic bargaining of the terrified; it knew the silence that descended when horror had strangled a man’s tongue.

But one day, Romans beheld peasants with no illustrious name to preserve, no patrimony to forfeit, nothing behind them but their faith, and saw these men of Christus advance into death with their eyes open, unhurried and unconquered.

He watched slaves die more nobly than senators.

And so, Christians shook the pagan world, converting multitudes through the unassailable authenticity of their lives. Yet those pagans were not conquered by saccharine hymns sung inside decadent churches, nor transfixed by the mere recitation of Gospel. Roman myths were more enthralling; Roman temples more magnificent.

The ancient Christian bore his faith in his very flesh, like their Messiah before them; coursing through their veins and becoming visible in the blood poured out from them, so that when a pagan encountered these Viri Christi, he could behold and apprehend the man of Christ—the Messiah these Christians worshipped—for Christ became visible through them. The Roman was moved by their conduct, their valor, their authenticity. Noble in life, glorious in their death.

Now Christians sing songs; the supreme demonstration of their faith is receiving Eucharist and disputing with atheists, arguing for positions they themselves don’t embody, remaining incapable of upholding the virtues and beliefs they themselves espouse. Inert in deed, counterfeit in character, fraudulent in virtue, and vainglorious in faith.

What became of those ancient men of Christ—the men who poured out their blood for their creed, their Christ, their God?

The authenticity of your faith should be vindicated through your actions to an unfathomable, inexhaustible extent; the fortitude exerted made manifest by blood weeping from your eyes.

What hubris! How can you kneel in prayer before the God you worship when you have not risen to live for Him?

Greek hierarch criticizes new school textbooks containing LGBT propaganda

Metropolitan Seraphim of Kythira and Antikythira has condemned the introduction into Greek schools of teaching materials that alter the definition of family. The hierarch of the Church of Greece called it unacceptable to impose non-traditional values and a "new type of family" on children under the guise of education.

From September 2026, books are planned to be distributed in Greek primary schools in which children are offered a choice of a "family type" that suits them from three options.

His Eminence stresses characteristically:

"Unfortunately, a ‘new type of family’ has been legislated and officially recognised: two persons of the same sex with the right to adopt children. This innovation is now also being introduced into school education, beginning with primary-school textbooks that will be circulated from September of this year.

Our children will be taught not only one type of family, as was the case until now, but also two other ‘types of family’—man with man and woman with woman—so that, in the future, they may choose the ‘type of family’ that suits them. A terrible decline! And worse still: an illustration is presented showing a person embracing and kissing an animal! Where are our children being led—to the worship of animals instead of the worship of God?”

Metropolitan Seraphim calls upon every Christian family to function as a “church in the home” and as a modern “secret school.” He urges parents and children to eat at the same table, pray together, attend church, participate in the Sacraments, and discuss what is taught at school. He further emphasises the need to return to the study of the Holy Gospel and the lives of the Saints, characteristically noting: “How necessary this spiritual mobilisation is today!”
