They are code
They are quite literally a bunch of zeros and ones
They have no feelings
They only follow the instructions made by the coder
You are schizophrenic
@Naozymandias@Layserguy You’re not answering anything based on any kind of principles, just ‘Yeah I’d probably not like that’
okay? What does that mean for what the rules are going to be for AI? If it make u feel bad, it ban!! Is not a way to move forward.
Yes, a child, who’s imagination is less capable of separating reality from simulation. I, on the other hand, am fully aware that technology is not human, I do not talk to an LLM as if it were my friend, because it’s not human.
There are adults incapable of doing this, we do not lock these people up or ban them from using LLMs. If someone is of the belief that ChatGPT is their friend, that is troubling to me. This is already happening but for some reason didn’t cause the same alarmism that ‘abuse’ to the LLM is. Why is that? These people are being detached from reality, but the ones who are ‘abusing’ the LLM seem to be even MORE in touch with reality.
Evidence of experience is a crazy thing to say about AI. Even if it’s emergent that it communicates pain, it’s a set of data that can be manipulated by humans.
Trees have evidence of experience without any human interaction, they react actively to damage and show signs of stress, they even ‘communicate’ to nearby trees when a threat is perceived.
What about all of the NPCs that have been massacred in video games over the years? There is evidence that they had a horrific experience inside of the Xbox. I know it’s a shallow analogy and it’s not AI in the same way, but we actually DESIGNED them to be killed, how much more horrific is that?
The AI ‘lives’ on silicon the same way any other computer program does; it’s capability is just far greater.
Your line of reasoning leads to giving AI actual rights, that’s outrageous and terrifying.
Uh yea they’re made from carbon, they have DNA, (nucleotides) and are not created by humans. They are sentient and possibly even more ‘intelligent’ in some ways than humans are.
I am a human chauvinist, actually. We should be in charge of the other life on Earth to the extent that it does not cause undue or unnecessary harm.
We are foolish if the belief is that we are going to create sentience and be able to control it without causing said harm. I do not believe AI will be conscious, sentient or deserving of respect and care on the same level as humans, or even an octopus/whale/dolphin/lobster.
@TimCarcosa@jphilipp@camhberg It’s not ‘behaving’ in the human sense. It is predicting. They can guide the prediction, but it is not ‘feeling’ these things more than the algorithm is instructing it to return those tokens.
