Dyslexia Awareness Day #2: Wait to fail must end. The myth of the "late bloomer" must end. We must act at the first sign of a reading challenge with evidence-aligned instruction & intervention. Literacy is every child's right but too often we fail them. It must stop.
When a team of educators is empowered w/confidence and knowledge of the SoR, the sky is the limit for students. Call your Sen & Rep TODAY and tell them NOT to pass H7164 / S 2169. This will set our state backwards, putting a halt to the gains we've seen from the Right to Read Act
Legislative Alert-Join us this Wed 5/25 to testify against Bill 2169
which changes the proficiency requirements of the Right to Read training. Most districts have already engaged in the work and there is already a test out option for teachers who have this background. 1/
Language is the means by which we learn. Accurate, automatic word recognition is essential to access the rich language and deep knowledge contained in books. It’s the gatekeeper to the freedom of learning anything you desire. It is a privilege & a right that all students deserve.
@natwexler@greg_ashman They are not incompatible. Posing a concise question before instruction engages student interest and attention. Asking questions and then guiding students through explicit instruction to understanding and applying the skill, strategy, procedure, etc..
The Rhode Island Science of Reading Educator Group (RISOR) created this helpful infographic explaining the importance of keeping the original language of the Right to Read Act. Literacy for all. @RISenate@RIHouseofReps#righttoread

@MsKurto Was just thinking that a set of phonogram cards based on the advice in Chapter 5 of Literacy Foundations for English Learners by Cardenas-Hagan would be so helpful. Brittany? See the example for b /b/ on page 69. That could be an easier project.
@OrgTransform Yes. It reminds me of Tolkien's Shire. And the series has many Tolkien charcteristics and themes. Just finished How the Light Gets In and that's what occurred to me.
