it is becoming f*cking dangerous: one TV cleanup post hit 5.2M views and 21,600 bookmarks in 2 days, and the repo behind it now has 4,000+ stars and tested lists for about 30 TV models
I went through the repo and the replies under the biggest posts. here's what's new since my last post:
1. is there a ready version now?
yes, it's open source. it backs up your TV, disables the junk with pm disable-user (nothing gets uninstalled) and installs a 250 KB launcher made for TVs with 1 GB of RAM. the README says about 15 minutes.
2. is my TV covered?
tested lists exist for Xiaomi, TCL, Sony, Hisense, NVIDIA Shield, Chromecast with Google TV and a few projectors. if yours isn't there, the prompt finds the junk on your exact model and asks before it touches anything.
3. Samsung or LG?
still no adb, they don't run Android. one Samsung owner cut the ads another way: set the TV's DNS to AdGuard (94.140.14.14) in network settings. a normal setting, no hacking.
4. Fire TV?
the cleanup works, but Fire OS won't let a new launcher become the home screen.
5. the Google TV mistake
→ disable the setup wizard too, or Home can crash-loop once the stock launcher is off
→ stuck anyway? adb shell pm enable --user 0 https://t.co/WYHaKqvevU.launcherx brings the stock launcher back
6. no Claude subscription?
Claude Code needs at least Pro. the repo also has a manual path: its scripts plus the list for your model, no AI needed.
7. one thing worth adding to the prompt
ask Claude to flag tracking and ACR packages first. ACR is the part that reports what's on your screen.
when you're done, turn network debugging off.
what brand is your TV? reply and I'll check if there's a tested list for it.

Vibe coded my parents' TV this afternoon!
It was showing a sponsored ad before you could even get to Netflix.
Gave Claude Code the model number, it found the TV on wifi, removed 25 Xiaomi packages and wrote a new launcher.
Looks like an Apple TV now lol

@RajneshZoom without Claude: turn on developer options, install adb, then run tools/disable.sh from the repo with the list for your model. no AI needed, just go 10 apps at a time
@RB_x10x Google TV, so yes. the closest tested list is the Xiaomi TV A Pro 2026, and there are about a dozen other Xiaomi lists in the repo. on Google TV disable the setup wizard too (point 5)
@WazerPortu close: the repo has a tested list for the Xgimi Horizon S Pro. the Horizon Pro runs Android TV too, so start from that list and let the prompt check what's different on yours
@0xn0v fair correction. Projectivy's home-button override works on a lot of Fire sticks. what Fire OS blocks is a third-party launcher becoming the real default, which the repo's launcher needs. worth re-checking after Fire OS updates
for everyone asking about other brands:
→ Samsung, LG, Hisense VIDAA, Roku, TiVo OS: no adb. use AdGuard DNS (94.140.14.14) and turn off Viewing Information (Samsung) or Live Plus (LG) in privacy settings
→ Xgimi, Philips and Xiaomi on Google TV: yes, several have tested lists
@MathieuJ85 not in the tested lists yet. a lot of Continental Edison smart TVs run Android TV (often version 9), so adb is there. open Settings → About to confirm, then let the prompt map the packages on your set before it disables anything
@rajapanchal_ no tested list for Haier yet, but a lot of Haier sets run Android or Google TV. if Settings → About shows Android TV, the prompt builds the list from your TV, just go 10 apps at a time. if it works, yours could be the first Haier list in the repo
@DogeGCR yes if it's an Android or Google TV Philips. the repo has tested lists for two of them: the 50PUS8517 and the Philips Smart 4K Google TV. check Settings → About first, cheaper sets on Saphi, Titan OS or Roku have no adb
@JLP_Prime most Vizio sets run SmartCast, not Android, so no adb route yet. what works today: turn off Viewing Data in the admin & privacy menu (that's Vizio's ACR) and try the AdGuard DNS trick from point 3 for the ads
the repo, open source: https://t.co/uvm9l5bm25
paste PROMPT.md into Claude Code, add your TV model, then tap Allow on the TV's USB debugging popup
credits: @gathint built it, @mertcobanov started this on Aug 27 (3.7M views), Samsung DNS tip from @halfdantimm
@vexley_x good addition. also check the TV's privacy menu first, a lot of brands have a viewing data or ACR switch there. turn that off, then let Claude find the rest
it is becoming f*cking dangerous: Claude Code now cleans the junk off your smart TV in one afternoon
the video passed 2.5M views and the replies all ask the same thing: how. here's the how, plus the 3 mistakes that leave you with a black screen or no HDMI.
1. will it work on my TV?
Android TV or Google TV (Sony, TCL, Hisense Google TV models, most Android streaming boxes): yes. Samsung, LG and Roku run their own systems and don't offer this kind of access.
2. do I need root or another device?
no. a laptop on the same wifi, Claude Code and adb, which Claude can install for you. no root, no bootloader, nothing to flash.
3. why did the Claude app say it can't reach my TV?
the chat in your browser can't touch your home network. Claude Code runs on your computer, and that's what talks to the TV.
4. how do I start?
→ Settings → System → About, press OK on "Android TV OS build" 7 times
→ Developer options → turn on USB debugging (and Wireless debugging if you see it)
→ Network & internet → Status, write down the IP
→ give Claude Code your TV model and that IP
5. can I break it?
yes, if you rush. the 3 rules:
→ disable apps, never uninstall them. every change stays reversible
→ 10 apps at a time, then test the remote, HDMI, sound and Netflix. the guide's author lost HDMI switching on a TCL to one package
→ install a new home screen before you turn off the old one. that's the black screen
6. what happens after a firmware update?
it can switch some apps back on. keep the list Claude writes and run it again, it's quick.
when you're done, turn network debugging off. any computer you approved can control that TV.
honestly this is the most useful thing vibe coding has done for normal people in a while. no new app, just a thing you already paid for working the way it should.
which TV are you trying this on?
the full prompt, with the undo log built in, is in the reply ↓
@unknownlost00 fair point, I should have said it. claude code needs at least pro. if you don't want to pay, the cleanup itself is free adb: adb shell pm list packages, paste it into a free chatbot, ask which are safe to disable, then adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 [package], 10 at a time
