@TMFScottP@1RossGittins Much of the post WWII West has embraced policies that are naive, idealistic and utopian. Such policies can only survive when the economy is strong and geopolitical climate is stable. Utopias never survive contact with reality.
@bruce_marvel Exactly. Having a nice life is more important to you than having lots of kids. Same here. I don’t blame cost of living for though. 75% of all nations are now below replacement rate. Surely, cost of living can’t be to blame everywhere all at once.
@bruce_marvel Sounds like lifestyle preferences to me. None of the things you mentioned have “insane” costs unless you chose expensive private schools and have expensive taste for food and clothes. Cars and holidays are lifestyle preferences.
🧵 China’s population collapse is now mathematically irreversible.
There simply aren’t enough women left of childbearing age.
Even if the fertility rate magically returned to replacement level (2.1 children per woman) tomorrow, the country would still lose more than 40% of its population by 2100.
It won't. The real number is 75%. There's nothing like it in history. 🧵
@AvidCommentator This is obviously fake news from the ABC. Everybody knows that property prices go up because taxes are too low and because there are not enough immigrants to build more houses.
@DrCameronMurray Immigration is the big driver. Given that housing is inelastic (humans have to live somewhere), a sustained high level of immigration will override price signals from interest rates, low wages etc.
@steve_wars Yes, that’s part of the answer. Delaying childbearing into late 30s and 40s makes it more likely to have fewer kids or no kids at all.
That said, countries like India where having kids young is still the norm, have also collapsed to below replacement rate. Why?
@ausstockchick@elonmusk I don’t think cost of living is the major driver. 75% of all nations are now below replacement rate, pretty much everywhere apart from Sub-Saharan Africa. It can’t be that everywhere is unaffordable all at once.
@SincDavidson Allowing people into the country at the rate of 3-5X historic averages is a choice. It’s artificial because the government can stop this at any time. Pretending it can be fixed by more supply given all the laws and regs that have to be changed is wishful thinking.
Very happy to see the H-1B issue finally getting the spotlight it deserves.
Researchers like @CyberGreen09, @WeaponAutism and plenty of others have spent countless hours trying to exposing this. They’ve faced death threats. One even fired from their job. They keep going anyway.
The H-1B program was sold to Americans as a way to fill genuine skills gaps. Instead it became a pipeline for corporations to replace American workers with cheaper foreign labor while pretending nobody domestic was qualified.
The data is right there. The visa flows. The countries of origin. The consulting firms acting as middlemen. The job postings written specifically to disqualify American applicants.
This was never a secret. It just took citizen journalists and researchers willing to risk everything to make people pay attention.
🚨 OMG. A MASSIVE India H-1B visa fraud ring has just been busted...nearly 90% PERCENT of India's visa applications contain FRAUDULENT INFORMATION
100,000 THOUSAND counterfeit certificates have been seized 🤯
"Law enforcement in India claim it has uncovered a network of universities that produce fake degrees which were possibly used to obtain these high skilled H1B visas, including one school which allegedly stole over 36,000 fake degrees. It cost as little as $1,400 for one of those."
"And while these are supposed to be high skilled employees during almost all of Biden's time in office, 83% got junior or entry level positions."
This is INSANE! SHUT DOWN THE H-1B SCAM!
@KenPaxtonTX is now going after this in Texas 🔥
@kayleighmcenany@SatAmericaFNC
India’s fertility rate has fallen below replacement for the first time in the country’s history, declining from a TFR of 2.3 to 1.9 in just a decade.
Delhi’s fertility rate now sits at 1.2, lower than Finland’s.

Capitalism is descriptive (reality first) and Socialism is prescriptive (theory first). Unsurprisingly, the former works in the real world and the latter only in academic theories.
A big reason the United States has healthier demographics than most developed countries is that it is the global leader in building single family homes.
American housing is intrinsically pronatal. Thread!
@AvidCommentator 100%. Also look out for a massive build up of drone and rocket defense systems as well as offensive drone and rocket capabilities to retaliate against Iran.
