Faroe Island driving is something else 🙂🙃. Be ready to pull over for oncoming traffic (on 1-lane roads), sheep, or cyclists!
Am I a geek bc I think of the design standards of these roads vs the engineering put into NA streets?
@MikePMoffatt OAS needs to be means tested. It’s original goal was to ensure seniors weren’t living destitute. It is now transferring wealth from the working class to those who have accumulated a sizeable net worth.
Cap OAS to seniors making $70K and let’s get on with it
@Scott_dLB Very disappointing this view makes it on stage, but an adult conversation about OAS reform doesn’t.
Meanwhile CMHC believes housing will be affordable to the middle class…in 2060
These are all choices
The Federal Housing Advocate has advised the government to set a target date to resolve the middle-class housing crisis by... 2060. 34 years from now. This means a Grade 10 student will have to wait until they're 50 to afford a home.

We live in a country with no sales tax on caviar and foie gras. But if a family with kids wanta to buy a small, entry-level townhome, they pay tens of thousands in HST, and if you suggest lowering these housing taxes, progressives will cry that you're subsidizing the rich.
As of Census 2021, less than 10% of 25-29-year-olds were the head of a household in a 3+ bedroom home they owned. Family-sized ownership housing is increasingly for older folks only.
New piece. The middle-class housing crisis harms the economy, social cohesion, and society writ large.
That's not opinion: That's backed by 30+ academic studies. We bring receipts.
How Canada’s Middle-Class Housing Crisis Is Undermining Its Future

@EricDLombardi A section (not the entire length) of the 2 lane gravel road has been under study since 2008.
The road is expected to be constructed by 2040 🥴
@danielfoch You can’t plan a housing market around such heavy yo-yoing. Housing scarcity on the upward trajectory, a frozen market on the downward trajectory. Such bad policy
@AaronHectorCFP Personally, I’d prefer earlier clawbacks over moving starting age to 67.
We also need dialogue on the fact that no one actually pays into OAS. Lots of misunderstanding there
@AaronHectorCFP We need a serious conversation on why govt is paying $9K/Yr to bring a senior’s income from $93K to $102K. Clawbacks need to start earlier ($70k?)
Many (not all) seniors are locked into affordability (homes worth 20x what paid for), and accordingly have enormous asset wealth.
@FrankfortDarryl@danielfoch@maywarren11 Thoughts on what the sales timeline for buildings look like in end-user focussed world? I’ve heard much longer time to get to 70% pre-sales for big bldgs, hence a shift to smaller bldgs (ie less height)
Even if Canada removed all taxes and red tape on new housing
Builders could not sell new detached homes at $150psf
Canada’s housing affordability challenges is about far more than taxes and red tape
