The front page of tomorrow's
@dailytarheel.
These are some of the text messages sent and received by University of North Carolina students during the Monday lockdown triggered by the shooting death of a teacher on campus.
I think every state has a victims compensation program and I know TX does. Today OK’s program took care of over $1,000,000 in medical bills and expenses that victims incurred. There are claim maximums but hospitals accepting payment are required to write off the remaining balance
Someone on Reddit asked, “if you’re injured as a result of a mass shooting, are you responsible for that medical bill?” And I find that a uniquely American question.
NEW: Three members of a Korean-American family are among the eight victims killed by a white supremacist in Allen, Texas. The couple’s 5-year-old is alive, but hospitalized.
The Korean consulate confirmed the deaths of the family: https://t.co/ulmvznSmsR
2020 Ok Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board report recommended uniform bond for DV charges… lot of people outraged have never heard court systems say “well he only has one victim, not the public” https://t.co/mDLTIUW9dW
More shocking? He was originally held w/o bond w/NO victim contact.
The courts knew he allegedly contacted the victim through letters--even threatened her. Case drags-gets out of prison. Doesn't show up for court, so that's a good time to change the bond to $25k and no oversight?
Jesse is a convicted felon who was supposed to be in court on a child porn related charge today. Over the weekend, Ivy Webster and Brittany Brewer had a sleepover with Tiffany McFadden, Jesse’s stepdaughter.
This is what happens in Gun Nation: A Texan asks his neighbor to stop shooting his AR-15 because it's 11pm and his infant is trying to sleep. Police say the gun owner then shot dead five in the neighbors' family, including an 8-year-old. https://t.co/ds4upyAkZ4
I absolutely loved working for the State but having to come back to no PTO was a logistical impossibility as a mom of 3- including 1 with special needs. I am so glad to see this pass for those who come after me.
Rep. Bennett asks about the cost of onboarding. Archer notes that 1.21 is the replacement cost for state employees, and that financial hardships related to motherhood drive some workers out. /10
ALL CLEAR — alert canceled. Very grateful, but still absolutely traumatizing. Thinking of colleagues and friends in Norman - and to the students at OU: I am so sorry. It doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t have to live in this kind of fear. WE. DON’T.
AMAZING: Live on Fox News, an angry mom at the Nashville School Shooting Press Conference, steps in front of the mic and gives an incredible speech.
Meanwhile Fox News is caught off guard and panics, trying to not show her on air. I'm sure the gun lobby and NRA aren't too happy.
The woman, named Ashbey Beasley
@CampBeasleywood
, was a Highland Park, Illinois shooting survivor, and said the following:
“Aren’t you guys tired of covering this? Aren’t you guys tired of being here and having to cover all these mass shootings? How is this still happening? How are our children still dying and why are we failing them? "These mass shootings will continue to happen until our lawmakers step up and pass gun safety legislation.”
Thank you!!
@okhdcc @CyndiMunson85 @reginatgoodwin Will parents have the right to know if their teacher is armed or how many teachers in the school choose to carry?
