Students at William Street School were roaring into fall as they watched their teachers run a relay race wearing inflatable suits. Learn more about the day, and its message of community building, at https://t.co/XuV788ZhX4
Dive into a math task on Day 1 because math is fun, and building community is essential. Your classroom "rules & procedures" can be part of doing the math. (I tell them where the exits are if there's a fire.)
I just made this new task in Polypad/Desmos

Even though I know better, I spend too much time thinking about "how hard" to make math lessons.

Okay I'm done retweeting nice things people have said about my talk. (Will reconsider if people say more nice things.) If you did not like the way I lacerated your fave edtech, you should get even with me by forwarding this to like a dozen of your buddies. https://t.co/Spe8jC3b7u
Revisiting “Building Thinking Classrooms”and struck once again by this quote. Learning truly sticks when students engage in hands-on math investigations. “Names of concepts should come after experiences with concepts.” Otherwise they are simply memorizing.

My students' first exposure to adding positive and negative numbers... building thinking classrooms style. The conversations were awesome. @BTCthinks@pgliljedahl
Some of @LancasterCSD & @Erie1BOCES finest are spending this long weekend filling our “math buckets” thanks to the annual @AMTNYS state conference!
Attending & presenting at The Assoc. of Math Teachers of NYS Conference next week where Peter Liljedahl will be the keynote speaker. SO EXCITED!! What are things you wish you would have known when you first started your BTC? #buildingthingclassrooms@AlisonCamp10@pgliljedahl
