I have never seen a state government institution or facility that is better run than their federal counterparts.

* Federal universities generally rank above most state universities.

* Federal Government Colleges are better run than state government colleges

* Federal teaching hospitals offer more specialised healthcare than state hospitals.

* Federal roads are better built and maintained than state roads.

* INEC, despite its imperfections, conducts more credible elections than State Independent Electoral Commissions.

* The federal civil service is generally more structured than state civil service.

Nigeria’s political elite are sleeping under the illusion that Abuja is some untouchable fortress. But Abuja is NOT insulated. Abuja is NOT immune. And Abuja is definitely NOT secure by geography.

The FCT is literally the ham in a banditry sandwich, and the bread is closing in.

Let me explain.

Abuja is bordered by Niger, Nasarawa, and Kogi—three states that have recorded huge numbers of abductions and killings in the last two years combined.

This is the reality surrounding the FCT.

Niger State has become a conveyor belt for banditry.
Unrestricted forest corridors, heavy arms circulation, and multiple LGAs effectively under criminal influence. Attacks have been recorded less than 100km from Abuja’s borders.

Yet elites pretend it’s “far.”

Nasarawa now has some of the fastest-rising kidnapping hotspots in North Central Nigeria.
Multiple incidents in Karu, Keffi, and Toto—all direct gateways into Abuja.

If Nasarawa sneezes, Abuja will catch the cold instantly.

Kogi has turned into a kidnapping highway.
From Okene to Kabba, operations have become bolder and more frequent—enough for security analysts to warn that Kogi is becoming the southern flank of the FCT’s vulnerability.

In fact, it could be said that the threat is already here. There have been kidnappings and killings in Bwari, Kuje, Gwagwalada and other neighborhoods on the outskirts of the FCT.

So while politicians host parties, commission projects, engage in inter-party squabbles, and speak of “normalcy” from the comfort of Maitama and Asokoro, the truth is simple:

Abuja is only peaceful because the fire around it hasn’t crossed the fence. Yet.

Security is not a speech.
Security is not press conferences.
Security is not elite optimism.

Security is geography + capacity + political will.

Abuja has geography working against it, capacity stretched thin, and political will trapped in denial and delusion.

The earlier the political class understands that the FCT is not a bubble but a buffer zone, the faster we can avoid a crisis that will shock the entire country.

Because once the ring around Abuja collapses, the centre will not hold long.

Abuja is vulnerable.
Abuja is exposed.
And Abuja is only as safe as Niger, Nasarawa, and Kogi.

The elite can keep pretending. The bandits won't.

The illusion of security is the most dangerous insecurity of all.

3. Reduced PAYE tax for those earning annual gross income up to ₦20 million

11. Pension funds and assets under the Pension Reform Act (PRA) are tax-exempt.
12. Pension, gratuity or any retirement benefits granted in line with the PRA
13. Compensation for loss of employment up to ₦50 million

14. Sale of an owner-occupied house
15. Personal effects or chattels worth up to ₦5 million
16. Sale of up to two private vehicles per year
17. Gains on shares below ₦150 million per year or gains up to ₦10 million
18. Gains on shares above exemption threshold if the proceed is reinvested
19. Pension funds, charities, and religious institutions (non-commercial)

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐱 (𝐂𝐈𝐓) - 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭

20. Small companies (turnover not more than ₦100 million and total fixed assets not more than ₦250 million) pay 0% tax
21. Eligible (labelled) startups are exempt
22. Compensation relief - 50% additional deduction for salary increases, wage awards, or transport subsidies for low-income workers
23. Employment relief - 50% deduction for salaries of new employees hired and retained for at least three years
24. Tax holiday for the first 5-years for agricultural businesses (crop production, livestock, dairy etc)
25. Gains from investment in a labeled startup by venture capitalist, private equity fund, accelerators or incubators
