Uzere Kingdom is in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta. It is the second town crude oil was found in commercial quantities after Olobiri. Exploration and Exploration for oil has been going on in the community for several decades.

On the 24th day of June, 2026 Well No.14 in OML 30 which is situate in Uzere and operated by Heritage Energy Operational Services Ltd, collapsed and crude oil mixed with natural gas and water have been vomiting and spreading on the ecosystem in Uzere unabated.

The reported collapse of Well 14 in OML 30, which has swallowed the Christmas tree and resulted in the uncontrolled discharge of crude oil and natural gas, represents a serious environmental and public safety emergency. Such an incident poses significant threat to the ecosystem, biodiversity, public health, livelihoods and socioeconomic wellbeing of the Uzere community. If left uncontrolled, the effects can persist for many years, causing irreversible environmental degradation and substantial economic losses.

Environmental impact:
One of the immediate consequences of an uncontrolled well blowout is wide spread environmental pollution. Continuous discharge of crude oil contaminates rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands, agricultural lands and groundwater. Oil forms a film on the surface of the water bodies, reducing oxygen exchange and threatening aquatic organisms. Fishes and other aquatic species may die of suffocation, toxicity or habitat destruction. The release of natural gas further escalates air pollution. Volatile organic compounds released into the atmosphere can reduce the air quality and may contribute to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions. Residents living near the affected area may also be exposed to potentially harmful air pollutants. Contamination of soils can significantly reduce soil fertility, making farmlands unsuitable for crop production. These are some of the hazards Uzere is facing right now.

Impact on biodiversity:
The ecosystems surrounding Uzere support a variety of plants and animals species. An uncontrolled spill like the one we have currently, threatens these habitats by coating vegetation with crude oil, impairing photosynthesis, and causing plants to die. Wildlife may suffer from poisoning, loss of food sources and habitat destruction and reduced reproductive success. Wetlands that serve as breeding grounds for fishes and other aquatic organisms are particularly vulnerable. Damages to these sensitive ecosystem can lead to long-term decline of biodiversity and disrupt ecological balance.

Public Health Concerns:
The continuous release of crude oil and gas poses a serious health risks to residents of Uzere and neighboring communities. Exposure to contaminated water, polluted air and toxic hydrocarbons increases the incidence of respiratory illnesses, skin irritation, eye problem, headaches and nausea, and other health complications.

Economic Impact:
The economy of Uzere depends heavily on agriculture, fishing and small scale trading. Oil contamination of farmlands reduces crop yields and destroy harvests, resulting in income losses for farmers. Similarly polluted water bodies can lead to declining fish populations, negatively affecting fishermen and fish traders. Businesses that rely on clean water and environment, May experience reduced productivity.

Social Impact:
Environmental disaster such as this would distort the social fabrics of Uzere and loss of livelihoods may increase poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, and migration. Uzere people would experience psychological stress, anxiety and uncertainty regarding our future, health and economic security.

Safety Risks:
The uncontrolled release of natural gas in Well 14 may create a risk of fire or explosion around the affected place.

Long Term Ecological Consequences:
Even after the well is successfully controlled, it may take many years for environmental restoration to be achieved. Oil residues can remain in the soil and sediment

NPF STRENGTHENS POLICE COMPLAINTS RESPONSE UNIT, ENCOURAGES PUBLIC REPORTING OF MISCONDUCT

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism, and public trust through the continued strengthening of the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU) as a direct and accessible channel for citizens to report police misconduct and unprofessional conduct.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, made this known during the Emergency Conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja. 

According to the Inspector-General, the Complaints Response Unit remains fully operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing members of the public with a direct platform to report cases of misconduct, abuse of office, extortion, human rights violations, and other unethical behaviour involving police personnel.

The IGP emphasized that accountability remains a core pillar of ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, noting that legitimate complaints from citizens will continue to receive prompt attention and necessary action.

He further encouraged Nigerians to make use of the available complaint channels responsibly, stressing that public cooperation is essential to building a more professional, transparent, and people-centered Police institution.

The Nigeria Police Force assures citizens that all reports received through the CRU are treated with seriousness and confidentiality, while appropriate disciplinary measures will continue to be taken against erring personnel found culpable after investigation.

The Force reiterates its determination to strengthen public confidence and institutional integrity through transparency, responsiveness, and respect for the rule of law.

Legacy of the Servant Leader: H.E. Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, 16 Years On

Today marks 16 years since our nation lost a dear hero, an icon of integrity, a selfless patriot, and a man I was privileged to call not just my boss, but my brother and worthy partner in service.

As I reflect on the passing of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, I am reminded of the shared passion we both held for a Nigeria where justice is not a slogan, but a lived reality for every citizen.

Our partnership was anchored on a common vision: to build an inclusive, united, and just nation. Yar’Adua was a man of quiet but profound conviction who believed that the strength of a country is measured by its commitment to the rule of law and the sanctity of the ballot.

He did not just lead; he served with a humility that is rare in the corridors of power, often putting national stability above personal or political gain.

His record in peace-building stands as an enduring legacy. He understood that true nation-building requires the courage to admit flaws and the sincerity to fix them.

For leaders, the life of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua serves as an enduring lesson. His example teaches us that leadership is a sacred trust, and that progress is only sustainable when it is rooted in transparency, accountability, and a genuine love for the people.

Sixteen years later, his strides continue to testify for him. As we remember this "Gentleman President," let us rededicate ourselves to the worthy causes he pursued with such passion.

I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Fellow Nigerians, good morning.

I woke up this morning after my church service with a deeply reflective heart, and despite every constraint, I felt compelled to share these thoughts with you.

Many people do not truly understand the silent pains some of us carry daily—the private struggles, emotional burdens, and quiet battles we face while trying to survive and serve sincerely in difficult circumstances.

We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic, where the very system that should protect and create opportunities for decent living often works against the people—a society where intimidation, insecurity, endless scrutiny, and discouragement have become normal.

More painful is when some of those you associate with, believing you would find understanding and solidarity among them, become part of the pressure you face. Some who publicly identify with you privately distance themselves or join in unfair criticism.

We live in a society where humility is mistaken for weakness, respect is seen as a lack of courage, and compassion is treated as foolishness—a system where treating people equally is questioned simply because you refuse to worship status, tribe, class, or power.

Personally, I have never looked down on anyone except to uplift them. I have never used privilege, position, or resources to oppress others, intimidate the weak, or make people feel small. To me, leadership has always been about service, sacrifice, and helping others rise.

Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them.

However, the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division, instead of focusing on deeper national problems and playing politics built more on control and exclusion than on service and nation-building.

Even within spaces where one labours sincerely, one is sometimes treated like an outsider in one’s own home. You and your team become easy targets for every failure, frustration, or misunderstanding, as though honest contribution has become a favour being tolerated rather than appreciated.

And when you choose to leave so that those you are leaving can have peace, and you step out into the cold, you are still maligned and your character is questioned. Despite all your efforts to continue working for a better Nigeria and engaging people with sincerity and goodwill, those who do not wish you well continue to attack your character and question your intentions.

There are moments I ask God in prayer: Why is doing the right thing often misconstrued as wrongdoing in our country? Why is integrity not valued? Why is the prudent management of resources, especially when invested in critical areas like education and healthcare, wrongly labelled as stinginess? Why are humility and obedience to the rule of law often taken to be weakness rather than discipline?

Let me assure all that I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or Senate President. I am desperate to see a society that can console a mother whose child has been kidnapped or killed while going to school or work. I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people will not live in IDP camps but in their homes. I am desperate for a country where Nigerian citizens do not go to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal will come from.

Yet, despite everything, I remain resolute. I firmly believe that Nigeria can still become a country with competent leadership based on justice, compassion, and equal opportunity for all.

A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

FORCE LEADERSHIP ORDERS DISMISSAL,PROSECUTION OF OFFICERS INVOLVED IN EFFURUN SHOOTING

The Nigeria Police Force hereby provides an update on the disciplinary actions taken following the fatal shooting incident of 26th April 2026 in Effurun, Delta State, which resulted in the death of Mr Mene Ogidi.

Sequel to the earlier directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, all officers connected to the incident were immediately withdrawn from the Delta State Command and transferred to Force Headquarters, Abuja, where they were subjected to expedited disciplinary proceedings.

The Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), alongside other internal disciplinary processes, has concluded its review. Findings established unequivocally that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other extant regulations governing the use of firearms. His actions were unlawful, unprofessional, and a clear betrayal of the oath to protect life and uphold the law.

Consequently, the FDC has recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers found culpable. The Inspector-General of Police has approved the recommendations and forwarded same to the Police Service Commission for ratification in line with due process.

Upon completion of the administrative procedures, the affected officers will be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution for their roles in the extrajudicial shooting.

The Inspector-General of Police reiterates, in the strongest terms, that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance stance on extra-judicial actions and abuse of power. No uniform confers the right to take life outside the provisions of the law. Any officer who violates this fundamental principle will face the full weight of disciplinary and legal consequences.

The IGP extends his deepest and most solemn condolences to the family of the deceased, Mr Mene Ogidi. He acknowledges the pain and loss suffered and assures the family that this tragic incident will not be treated lightly. The Force is fully committed to ensuring that justice is not only served but seen to be served, in a manner that reinforces public confidence and institutional accountability.

Members of the public are urged to remain calm and law-abiding, as the Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and the protection of the rights and dignity of all citizens while ensuring accountability at all levels.

Terrorists who launched a coordinated assault on Kukareta community in Borno State around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday were decisively repelled by Nigerian troops, who neutralized 24 of them after an intense gun battle.

Recovered items from the terrorists include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), and two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns.

OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS DEFEAT MULTI-FRONT ISWAP ATTACK AT MANDARAGIRAU, INFLICT HEAVY LOSSES

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in the early hours of Saturday, 28 March 2026 decisively defeated a halfhearted attack by ISWAP terrorists on FOB Mandaragirau in Sector 2. The troops engaged the attackers with well-coordinated ambushes and a deliberate offensive-defensive response that forced them into a disorderly withdrawal while the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support to the troops and ISR feedbacks to enhance targeted kinetic responses.

Subsequent exploitation along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes inflicted further heavy losses. A total of about 38 terrorists were neutralized with 8 bodies recovered so far within the immediate engagement area and human intelligence from locals confirming over 30 additional terrorists’ bodies and weapons strewn along Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis into the Timbuktu Triangle.

This was evidenced by blood trails and abandoned equipment. Troops also recovered 7 AK-47 rifles, 8 magazines, 4 RPG bombs and assorted ammunition, while recording no fatalities; one MRAP was hit by RPG fire, with injured personnel promptly stabilized. The scale of enemy losses has triggered widespread jubilation among local communities and highlights the sustained dominance of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action.

Further exploitation operations are ongoing along the Garin Mallum - Garin Gajere axis at the fringes of the Timbuktu Triangle to recover the littered terrorists’ corpses and consolidate gains.

FC MNJTF UNDERTAKES CONFIDENCE-BOOSTING OPERATIONAL ASSESSMENT VISIT TO MALAM FATORI

The Force Commander (FC), Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Saidu Tanko Audu, on 19 March 2026 conducted a confidence-boosting operational assessment visit to 68 Battalion, Malam Fatori, in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State, Sector 3, MNJTF Area of Responsibility.

The visit followed the gallant defence of the military deployment by troops during a multi-pronged attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists from the evening of 18 March 2026 into the early hours of 19 March 2026.

Accompanied by the Commander, Sector 3 Nigeria MNJTF, Major General S Tilawan alongside the Ag Commander 19 Brigade, Colonel Emmanuel Okon Ikang. The Force Commander conveyed commendations from the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa CFR (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

The FC praised the troops for their gallantry, dedication, proactiveness, resilience and above all professionalism.He noted their defensive determination also prevented the plunder of the civilian population in the area.

Following detailed operational briefing, the Force Commander provided further guidance to the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ochigbo and his officers, urging sustained vigilance and renewed commitment to prevent any attempt by BH for reprisal attack/threat due to the massive lost they suffered during tge last encountered.

Addressing the troops, the FC emphasised the importance of teamwork, vigilance, and unwavering resolve to deal with the terrorist if they come again. He charged them to remain steadfast and to show no mercy to the terrorists and enemies of the state. He also assured them of the prompt provision of logistics support, while pledging to escalate their concerns to higher authorities.

The Force Commander and the Sector 3 Commander subsequently inspected the defensive layout and made some defensive layout adjustment to improve the defensive location trenches and gun positions, offering additional guidance aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and boosting their morale. Commendations from higher headquarters were also conveyed to individual soldiers.

Finally, before departing the Mallam Fatori, the FC and the Sector Commandre visited the Mallam Fatori Community where the FC urged the community to support the troops with relevant and timely information. He equally adviced the male and female youths in the community to resist the lure of the terrorists to join their ranks or be used as couriers of suicide bombs to their community.
