Having a deficit-attitude of our students skews the perception of what we think and expect them to do.
Instead of saying "they can't” what if we said, “not yet.”
Instead of saying “what's wrong with them?” what if we said, “what can I do to build on their existing strengths?”
According to John Hattie, "we need to get better at learning transfer." When students can apply their learning in various settings, we know they have learned and that our teaching has had impact.

Imagine a world where we asked kids what they learned during the pandemic, instead of assessing them on what some disconnected, profit-obsessed testing companies THINK they should have learned.
