🚨🚨BREAKING - The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights @court_afchpr has granted Kenya a three-month adjournment to demonstrate compliance with the Court’s ruling on a case concerning the rights of the Ogiek people. The Respondents for the Kenyan government affirmed their respect for the Court's decisions and overall Rule of Law, reporting that two task forces and an intergovernmental commission had been tasked with preparing a roadmap for the implementation the court’s judgment, but noted challenges, including the recent reshuffle of the Cabinet of Ministers.

In the proceedings Applicant's Lead Counsel, Adv. Bahame Tom Nyanduga, urged the Court to:

▶️Deny the adjournment request.
▶️Issue conservatory measures to halt further Ogiek evictions.
▶️Award financial compensation due to delays in enforcing the decision.

A landmark ruling from an African human rights commission said the DRC violated the rights of Indigenous Batwa people by forcibly evicting them from their ancestral lands and establishing a national park there without the original inhabitants' consent.

@RFUK @achpr_cadhp @MinorityRights @ForestPeoplesP @RainforestNORW @TheWCS DRC has an obligation to implement the ruling, but so does WCS. If DRC does not return the lands to the Batwa, and the eco guards WCS manages continue to violently exclude them from the park, WCS will be complicit in and responsible for the ONGOING violation of 11 Charter rights.
