This is exactly the kind of mindset public health professionals, advocates, and people living with HIV have spent decades trying to dismantle. Whether it’s framed as a joke or not, suggesting that people with HIV should wear some form of “identifier” echoes a long history of stigmatization and discrimination.

HIV is a medical condition, not a moral failing, and people living with it deserve the same dignity, privacy, and respect as anyone else.

If the goal is comedy, it should at least not come at the expense of a group that has endured years of prejudice, social exclusion, and misinformation. We should be normalizing education and empathy not recycling stereotypes that public health efforts have worked tirelessly to overcome.
