The part of losing a family member I wasn’t expecting is how much your family’s reactions and actions (or lack thereof) around that loss makes a mess of your relationships with the living too.

Logically I know it and even have seen it play out even within my own family, but I couldn’t have prepared for their reactions or how their reactions (or lack thereof) made me feel.

I couldn’t have known how this second grief over THOSE losses became a silent passenger for the journey that I didn’t invite.

Nor could I have known how UNSAFE it makes you feel for the trust of those bonds to be challenged or broken entirely.
