🌍 World Environment Day 2026
The most important investment we can make today is not only in infrastructure, technology, or industry. It is in the natural systems that sustain life itself.
🌱 This year's theme, Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future., highlights a reality that is becoming increasingly clear: long-term prosperity, economic development, and environmental stewardship are not competing priorities. They are fundamentally interconnected.
Across the world, governments, industries, researchers, and communities are redefining how development is planned and delivered. Climate resilience, sustainable resource management, ecosystem restoration, renewable energy, and nature-based solutions are increasingly becoming essential components of responsible decision-making and long-term development strategies.
🔬 At LGES, we are witnessing this transition across multiple sectors and environments, where science, technology, and innovation are increasingly shaping the way sustainable development is planned and delivered. Through environmental monitoring, ecological assessments, sustainability services, geospatial technologies, and environmental consultancy, we support informed decision-making and sustainable outcomes across a wide range of environmental and development projects.
🌿 World Environment Day serves as a reminder that environmental responsibility extends beyond compliance, policies, or individual initiatives. It is a shared commitment to ensuring that progress today does not compromise the opportunities of future generations.
The choices we make now will influence not only the condition of our environment, but also the resilience of our economies, the wellbeing of our communities, and the legacy we leave behind.
🤝 On this World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting sustainable development through science, innovation, and responsible environmental management.
Because the future we aspire to build depends on the environment we choose to protect today.

🪸 Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, yet they support more than 25% of all marine life.
They protect coastlines, sustain fisheries, support tourism, provide livelihoods to millions of people, and form some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on Earth.
Yet despite their importance, coral reefs around the world continue to face increasing pressure from climate change, pollution, unsustainable coastal development, marine debris, and other human-induced impacts.
🌍 On World Reef Awareness Day, we are reminded that protecting coral reefs is not only about conserving nature. It is about safeguarding biodiversity, supporting coastal communities, strengthening climate resilience, and preserving the health of our oceans for future generations.
At LGES, coral reefs are more than a subject of study.
Through marine ecological surveys, coral reef monitoring, habitat assessments, environmental impact studies, and coral relocation projects, the LGES Marine Department is actively supporting the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of coral reef ecosystems.
🔬 Science provides the knowledge.
🤝 Collaboration creates impact.
🌊 Action delivers change.
The future of coral reefs will depend on the decisions we make today.
Because protecting reefs means protecting oceans.
And protecting oceans means protecting our future.

📢 Delighted to share our latest scientific publication
At Leaf Global, we continue to integrate remote sensing technologies, satellite data analysis, drone-based surveys, and GIS spatial modelling into our environmental and geospatial workflows. These technologies allow our teams to analyse large and complex terrains, support environmental assessments, and provide data-driven insights for projects across challenging environments.
As part of this effort, our latest publication explores how Earth observation data from Landsat 8 and ASTER satellites can be used to map hydrothermal alteration minerals. These minerals are key indicators for understanding geological systems and identifying mineralized zones, particularly in arid and difficult-to-access regions where field surveys are constrained.
The study demonstrates how satellite-based remote sensing techniques can help identify alteration patterns and improve the interpretation of geological environments using multi-sensor data.
Scientific research and technological innovation remain essential tools for improving how we observe, analyse, and understand complex environmental and geological systems. 🛰️🌍

🌊 As marine development accelerates across the Red Sea and the wider Middle East, the need for reliable, high-quality environmental monitoring has never been greater.
Aligned with the ambitions of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the growing regional focus on a sustainable Blue Economy, environmental monitoring plays a critical role in balancing coastal development, infrastructure growth, and the protection of sensitive marine ecosystems.
At LGES, we continuously invest in next-generation survey technologies and advanced subsea equipment to strengthen our marine environmental monitoring capabilities across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East. The integration of ROV-based solutions into our survey workflows enables our scientific teams to extend monitoring beyond diver-safe limits and access deeper or more complex environments while maintaining the scientific control required for robust environmental assessments.
By combining ROV surveys, scientific diving observations, and in-situ environmental measurements, LGES is able to improve spatial coverage, enhance habitat characterisation, and collect high-quality visual datasets that support reliable environmental reporting and informed project decision-making.
🤝We are pleased to see our operational approach and collaboration featured by @boxfishrobotics , an internationally recognized company developing advanced underwater robotic systems. Their technology enables safer, more efficient, and scientifically robust monitoring of marine environments, particularly in depth ranges and conditions where traditional survey methods become constrained.
As the region advances ambitious initiatives for marine conservation, coral restoration, and sustainable coastal development, innovative technologies such as ROV-based monitoring will play an increasingly important role in supporting responsible marine management.

The Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas), once listed as Endangered, has officially been reclassified as “Least Concern” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
After decades of global conservation efforts, from nesting beach protection to bycatch reduction and habitat restoration, these ancient mariners are finally showing a remarkable recovery. This milestone reflects the power of long-term commitment, science-based conservation and community involvement across generations and continents.
However, many regional populations still face significant challenges, from habitat loss and marine debris to climate change and unsustainable fishing. The journey toward full recovery continues.
At LGES, our marine scientists, Marine Mammal Observers (MMOs), and scientific divers remain dedicated to monitoring sea turtles and protecting their habitats. Through continuous fieldwork, data-driven assessments and collaboration with our partners, we will keep contributing to the conservation of these iconic species and the ecosystems they depend on.
