When I was 16 in the 1970s I was expelled from high school for being a lesbian and put in a psychiatric ward for conversion therapy to de-gay me. It was so traumatic, I attempted suicide. I was fortunate--I survived. So I am celebrating another birthday, today. But conversion therapy is STILL legal and suicides of LGBTQ kids are 40% higher than their non-LGBTQ peers.

Judging from my own experience, 1000% agreed. Once our life doesn’t depend on our parents anymore most of us can finally be free to be who and how we actually are and not what they want us to be. Not having to tiptoe around your parents is a relief beyond measure.
