My government paid $2 million! for a bathroom in a park. Yet it’s often empty, and it’s already missing a sink.
By contrast, this public but PRIVATELY RUN park spent much less, while renovating a public toilet so well that people line up to use it.
An excellent report from @MarkMcvitie and @LabourGrowth. Regardless of your politics, please read. It chimes very much with the work that #DontWasteBuildings has been doing across the UK.
There’s a lot I could say, and will eventually, about thinking behind this work, where it goes etc but for now I want to focus on this from my father’s eulogy for my grandfather.
This is what our politics is *for* to me. It must be for something, and someone, or it’s nothing.
Here's my interactive map of last week's local election in London showing every candidate for every ward in every borough - all in one place.

@ClareDelmar@LBRUT Commiserations Clare. It has been fascinating to watch the process from afar. I know you will find other ways to continue to serve your community.
@parr_craig61423@DaveHill 4. On the last point, I have been genuinely shocked by the degradation of honesty and integrity from politicians across all parties. Happy to work with you in ensuring that candidates, regardless of party, do not drop below the levels that the community expect of them.
Very good from @DaveHill. I was Hackney resident for 25 years, a Governor at 3 schools. Strong, committed, hard working councillors were vital to improving schools. It was a long road. Think hard about the people who you will be tasked with work like this when you vote.
@parr_craig61423@DaveHill 3…the private and public housing sector. Let private developers crack on and do what they do, and then get the state sector building social housing that remains in their ownership (no right to buy). Not sure what party will do that?
@parr_craig61423@DaveHill 2… that demand can bounce back. Likewise your note about lack of council homes is deeply concerning. The current system, Uk wide is to make private developers (largely, not entirely) responsible for the delivery of social housing. Personally, I would de-couple…
@parr_craig61423@DaveHill I was chair of Governors at Orchard Primary School, Hoxton Garden and on the Interim Board at Daubeney. I believe that the closure of schools is due to falling roll demand , but you are right to be concerned about the long term plan for schools. We have learnt from the past ….
This will be a terrific @londonsoc event next Monday evening, with the excellent Richard Brown (@MinorPlaces) and @ben_rog among the stars. https://t.co/ptiUbKJFLG. #london
@PropertyWeek 2. Shockingly, many buildings of this era are already past their useful life. #DontWasteBuildings has been looking at how other countries incentivise reuse. https://t.co/IFCO7ggHgX
@PropertyWeek The GSK building is an excellent case study in the reuse of post-2000 buildings. Hadley should be congratulated for their ambitious plan to reuse this building…..
